Go look at his playoff stats, the value of the contract is there. The NYR should be expected to make the playoffs yearly and run through the regular season. Shesterkin isn't the issue in the regular season.

Igor is the scariest goalie in the postseason by far for me

I would have actually walked away and save the cap space. He turned down $11m x 8 to start the year. He's had a terrible year so far, can't imagine his price went up. NYR could have had an extra $20m in free cap space going into next season.

He is in a slump but I think he will recover…and I am betting zero quatloos on that. But it makes me wonder if the departed Benoit Allaire was the real $11.5 million.
Still, I think Drury did the right thing. He just has to limit the traditional Ranger urge to import high paid fading veterans and give the youts a chance for most positions

I like Shesterkin but lets be honest. His one elite season was years ago and he is about to turn 29. He isn't a Henrik Lundqvist

That is BS. Henrik playing in a much more defensive, low scoring era with Jamie Benn winning Art Ross with 87 points. No goalie is safe today, but Igor proved he’s money at the most important time - the play offs
