40 pages in, gotta tell ya. The best idea so far and we should really entertain it:

All NYR fans get together, form a specific association, ten million fans each 100$, buy the Rangers for 1 billion.
German football clubs (I mean the actual football where the ball is round and is not thrown around using hands all the time) have this rule that the fandom owns 50 % of the club and the owners are kept in check.

I was in a meeting when this news broke and I got an alert that the Rangers fired their President and GM. I thought for sure is was my friend Jon Daniels the President of the Texas Rangers and rumored to be on the chopping block.

This news floored me. I have thought the rebuild was going very well. If there was one person I thought was bullet proof it was John Davidson. And while I had though Quinn would at least start next year, it’s now obvious he won’t. This is not where I wanted my team to be.

I don’t know what the hell Dolan is thinking or doing. I did a quick survey of my hockey friends this afternoon and they are all as stunned as I am. No one I can locate saw this coming.

I have no idea what to expect next.

At least Kreider is a good player. The other comments you have made are true. The one thing everyone keeps forgetting is drafting LA and FC. Sorry but for first round picks in the same year 3 years ago we have gotten nothing out of it. LA is rightfully gone and FC is a huge disappointment. At this point we should have had 2 established building blocks in their 3rd year.

Trouba is also a good player, a bit overpaid, but it's no coincidence that the wheels kinda came off when he got injured
The defense is far worse without him

i thought you wanted the team to try and win as soon as possible which is what Dolan wants

all this talk of "dolan has been thinking about doing this for awhile" sounds like cover to me

Pre-COVID, the Knicks were consistently top 10 in the league in attendance, even with their struggles. Perhaps I should rephrase: the emphasis was never on building a proper team, it was on having star players who would draw eyeballs and bring in money.

Look, I get it. We're all shocked by this, and some people think Gorton and JD were unjustly fired. As I said, I was in no way advocating for them to be fired before this. I didn't even think it was a possibility. I mean, I was completely caught off guard by the events of the last few hours. I am in no way supporting the moves Dolan has made in a vacuum.

I don't think Dolan honestly cares if the Rangers or Knicks have a championship caliber team. He's in the biggest media market in the world (lots of ad $$) and can sell out every night even when the teams suck. I think the last three days have embarrassed him and this is the only way (or the easiest way) that he can figure out how to respond.
This. The last 2 weeks have put the rangers on center stage as being soft as butter, unable to beat quality teams. The rag dolling of panarin was the straw that broke the camels back IMO. It sent the message that anyone can do what they want to any rangers player without any retribution. For a guy like Dolan, that’s an embarrassment.
Most of us don’t like it either

Gorton and JD screwed up the Kreider extension, the trade and extension for Trouba. Before that even with the McD/Miller trade return, They did nothing particularly well other than get lottery lucky in the draft and have Fox want to be a Ranger.

Gorton was also responsible for Zibs/Brassard trade. Nash trade that netted Strome, Lindgren, and Miller. Had the balls to tear down the old core 3 years ago and put a young, talented team on the ice in a pretty short amount of time. The finished product wasn't completed but I thought they were moving in the right direction. They did a lot of good things and the firing by the idiot Dolan was absurd. That idiot was the main reason the Knicks have been a joke for the last 20 years.

Larry brought up Rick Tocchet in his column as next coach candidate lol
Tocchet will be a candidate. His contract is up in Arizona and he has done a lot with a little here. What worries me though is that he has had run in’s with some of his better players (e.g. Domi, Duclair, OEL) that have gone public. And his offense is very passive. He comes with baggage.

The Zib/ brassard trade was a strictly cash move by a penny pinching owner in Ottawa. I’m not giving Gorts too much credit here. Brassard was paid most of his money and Ottawa didn’t want to pay Zibby 25-30 mill on his next deal. That was the whole crux of it. It wasn’t some master swindle. Gorts made some solid moves but he also had his share of misses

His fans are...
Nah, his fans recognize he got wronged and think he’s the type of player we need right now. His haters however...they’re the real delusional ones. They can’t look past politics. Because anyone who thinks he should have been gone after the Georgiev situation is either a moron, or can’t look past his opinions.

not about to get into any of the reasons why ADA was demonized... but the shoving match with Georgiev is what was the "last straw"...
lol, this is buffoonery. If you don't like the player, for whatever reason, and you see he isn't a good fit... you don't resign him and then destroy his trade value. Just add this to the list for Gorton and JD.

one of my Fav players ever. Could do it all.

I’m just trying to talk myself into believing that Drury won’t go and get pressured into making an overpayment for a Eichel, Kopitar or Toews type deal.

I want to believe he’s going to, for the most part, stick with the kids.

Gorton’s stupidity is one of the reasons why he’s gone. Anyways, he’s an average GM and that was only at the bottom of my list of why I wanted him gone.

Average is selling Gorton short, but I wouldn’t call him tops either. He’s had his bad decisions in addition to plenty of good. He’d be a natural fit for a team like Vancouver. Ultimately, NYR are in a lot better shape than they were 3 years ago, although there are still some pretty glaring needs.

There are 30 other teams in the NHL. Ours got the deal done. That’s worth something.

I was super mad a first. But then I thought about it. They deserved it. This board has been complaining all year that Quinn should have been fired. So based on that logic Dolan made the right move.
I guess we'll see, but I wouldn't necessarily assume the panic scenario with this.

We've all talked about the rebuild moving to a different phase. Maybe they just felt Gorton wasn't right to oversee that and JD didn't agree.
