JD and Gorton has been able to sell their story to NY media.
But if Dolan asks prominent people around this league, he of course has connections, stuff like:
(a) “how do you think we are handling Kakko and Laf?”, what will they say? NOBODY has developed high picks as sloppishly as Quinn have, basically ever. Nobody. Zero plan. Zero support. Focus on defense, yeah this is the lesson everyone learned from EDM, put super talents on a 3rd-4th line for a few years during their most important development years in their career, and it won’t play out well.
(b) “Do you think Quinn is doing a good job? Is he the best guy for the job, money is no issue!”
I don’t don’t think anyone would agree with Gorton and JD on this. We are obviously horribly poorly prepared in so many areas. We are a mess on the ice. He is doing a record crappy job with the top picks. There is an extremely obvious rift between well regarded elite NHLers like Ziba and Panarin and the coach.
We can have anyone, have stayed with a disaster. Totally unacceptable. Or does anyone seriously think some top NHL name that Dolan can call would tell him something else? These guys aren’t like the media that will buy something that sounds good.
(c) ‘Hey we are the softest weakest team in the league despite playing only division rivals that play dirty. Is it really such a great idea like JD and Gorts say that the kids gets to learn to bend over daily?’
You think someone like say Shanny or whomever Dolan might call would say ‘hey Chuky don’t worry, they know what they are doing, this is definitely the right move’
All I know is that it’s basically a custom that the team that gets a high pick gets a goon the first year or two to back up that kid, make sure nobody takes liberties. Let them carry themselves as they want, without worrying about getting taken advantage of. We did the opposite. Miller skates to the bench while someone humiliates our goalie in our crease. I don’t think this is good.
Is this surprising? Yup, but there are so so so much ammo out there for this to happen when Dolan starts to talk with informal advisers.
