I know most think Dolan is stupid but he’s not inept. This is not the knicks, he’s not going to trade away all of our young talent

Your honor, I'd like to present to the jury, Dolan's approach from 1997-2000 and his growing influence within the organization.

Those deals and those signings that everyone fondly remembers? Not just Smith, that's an active Dolan in that process as well.

You're right it's not the Knicks. And in some ways that helps us. Dolan doesn't understand hockey. On the other hand, that's a double-edged sword because Dolan...doesn't understand hockey.

The Athletic is running a good podcast right now called “Shattered”, it’s about the Knicks under Dolan. It’s worth a listen for those who really aren’t familiar with who this guy is, what he is and how he operates.
For example. Last episode went into how Dolan basically pushed Donnie Walsh out, brought back in Isaiah as his adviser, and promptly got ripped off in the Melo deal.
I except the same with Eichel

I hope Drury kicks *** and this entire board starts kissing his *** in no time. I really do. Maybe part of it is because I’m desperate for this to work and maybe the other half knows he’s cut out for a larger role, I don’t know.
Unless the ass that Drury is kicking belongs to Dolan, the problem will remain.

I think a lot of people that said let’s wait for the facts haven’t really stuck to that on here. They’re just shredding the owner that for the most part has stood aside and let the GM run the show for over six years now and they haven’t won.

The facts are pretty clear. The rationale for this move is more than up for debate. That seemingly JD/G's fates hung on a shortened, chaos packed season held in the middle of pandemic one year after drafting first overall just goes to show the insanity of the owner. Especially when they were playing meaningful games into late April.

THIS is what people should be at least partially concerned about.

And not just Eichel.

Kopitar. Toews. Etc.

All of those become possibilities, and not necessarily in the most strategic fashion.

Pure conjecture....Silly to think its about the direction of the team or Gorts or JD not trading a stud for a vet....this incident 100% is about The Wilson event...timing tells the tale. Bettman said either 2-3 1st round picks as penalty for statement or heads on a platter. Yotes paid a first rounder this year for much less than questioning the integrity of the league.

To be fair, he doesn't understand basketball either.

I wish I was in the room when Colin Campbell found out about the statement. Releasing that goes against a sacred code of hockey management which is never bring the league into disrepute. Colie must have been furious.

Drury has his work cut out for him repairing the relationship between the governors and the Rangers. We might not make it out intact. I shudder to think how bad it could get.

I’m also expecting the Rangers will be on the pk very early tonight.

I was never a fan of the JD hire, and (despite liking what he’s done so far) Gorton was never going to be allowed the GM for life thing Slats had going, so this wouldn’t be the end of the world under different circumstances. It’s HOW it’s happened that really leaves me feeling uneasy about the future.

A Dolan-picked Drury running the team with a retired-in-all-but-title Slats acting as the only buffer does not instill confidence.

I actually don’t know if I’ve ever been THIS down on this team before.

I pray it all works out.

That was a big part of what Sather did pretty well. It's not to debate all of his decisions --- good and bad.

Dolan unchecked is....a potential challenge of the highest degree.

Unless Sather is planning to be more active in his role as advisor (he's gotten a lot older guys), this is the first time this team hasn't had a buffer in close to 20 years. Dolan needs a buffer. He's a hot wire that needs a ground.

How do we even go about bringing in a respected buffer, or just anyone that can shoo Dolan away and tell him to go bury his nose in something else? This whole situation, while I'm obviously not invested outside of being a fan, has me feeling extremely uneasy over the future of the team.

The Rangers are the softest team in the league. It is way too expensive to get tougher at this point. See: Ritchie, Josh Anderson. These guys are expensive and we are so late adopters. I for one welcome our new overlord

That is actually precisely why I think that there is more to this than just how the team did.

As insane as Dolan has been, I cannot see him being THAT insane.

JD is a really classy guy. My favorite moments as a Ranger fan were as a kid watching him beat the Flyers and Islanders in 1979. Every street hockey game I would play goal and every save I made I would say "save JD!" I really think there was a chance they asked JD to fire Gorton and JD refused. I wish they would have kept JD. Why bring him here to fire him in under 2 years?
Said in that Jim Gordon voice no doubt

I don't know.

In theory, that guy is Messier. But for as much as I like him as a player, I don't have confidence in him for that role. At the very least, he doesn't have my trust. At worst, I don't think he's a fit.

Hiring Keenan to go with Messier would fit in well with Dolan taking over.
I do not think Sather or Drury would allow that (Keenan). I do not want to get in to details but I think the Rangers know better. Slats passed up on Mess multiple times in the past.

Messier seems like a grifter that would be exactly like Isaiah Thomas.

I am not sure that this will be entirely negative in the long run. And I am not a big Drury or Sather fan. But - there were certainly things that could've been done better by the Dynamic Duo fired today - especially out of an owners perspective. Most of the super wealthy people on this planet are descipable and sociopaths, it kind of comes with the territory. And that ain't changing...

We have lots of assets and talent to boot now in the organisation, use the tradable ones of the older core and surplus of youth to find the right & balanced mix now. Along with a real NHL coach. There is a lot of opportunity here that should not be botched.Checkers.
.

I'd bet money on Torts or Brindamour.

Agreed 100% with the sociopath comment. Even the benevolent ones have an angle they are pursuing and use kindness as a weapon
