  • Re-signing Kreider
  • Trading and giving big contract to Trouba who has been underwhelming while Pionk and Heinola have looked very good
  • Trading up for Schneider who most people seemed to dislike the pick at first (and many still don't like it)
  • DeAngelo situation
Take away winning the lottery twice in a row and getting Kakko and Lafreniere, has Gorton really done that great of a job?

Consider how bad the state of the franchise was after we got trounced in 2016 and that was just a short 5 years ago.

The worst prospect pool in hockey, no cap space because we had our aging core locked into expensive deals and that offseason we didn't even pick until the 3rd round after no 1st round pick for the fourth straight offseaeon.

Then again, Gorton inherited a can't mess up situation with being able to tear down a playoff quality roster and liquidate big names like Nash, McDonagh, Miller, Stepan, Brassard, Hayes, Zuccarello, etc.

Gorton had a huge leg up on his rebuild compared to any other situation.

Considering we'd have the same team except instead of Kakko and Lafreniere, we'd have Zegras and Lundell, yeah, he'd still have done a pretty good job.

Again, I see where you and @Kovalev27 are coming from, but why do this today and not next week? There's no way this was a hockey decision.

There's only one logical explanation and it fits the narrative: Dolan wanted this message out and the top two lieutenants didn't want to back it. Gonzo. And there, in one fell swoop, goes the credibility that was being built up with the fanbase since "the letter" regarding the rebuild.
Who's going to want to work for this organization after this? No one worthwhile, that's for sure.

Ok, but Drury isn't clueless and it doesn't seem like he's just going to burn down the franchise. He's been taught in the mold of Gorton and he has to know what he has here. I trust him and have been a fan of having him in the process all along. Time will tell but I have faith.

We'll also see as more comes out, but if your boss puts out a league-altering statement, you back it up or you leave. JD and JG could have spoken to him prior to releasing it and given their input, but once its out you back it up, especially in the context of protecting your best player. If this is why they were fired, I get it.

Two things to consider:

1. Did they know about it and what is it they didn’t agree with after the fact?

2. Do you think Drury has autonomy after a move like this?

ha you think so? Neither of them would be near a powerplay they’d be doing nothing like every other top kid that Quinn gets his hands on. Kravtsov man that kid looked great for two weeks until he learned “the system”
