Confirmed with Link: NYR Acquire Jacob Trouba for Pionk and 20th Overall pick

Agreed. Pionk is better than most people give him credit for. He had no business playing as many minutes as he did, but Shatty sucked and ADA took time to get his head on straight.

Put Pionk in a 3rd pair role and he'll be fine.

Someone posted something interesting a few days ago (I don't remember who so I can't credit)

The future Dr. Trouba is attending medical school in Florida. She is going to become a doctor in the US, not Canada. That always made any extension in Canada prohibitive. The Jets knew this and knew they had to take appropriate steps.​

Once she graduates, her next step is an internship. New York is an incredible teaching hospital city. The Rangers are supremely well connected. She can pretty much pick her spot here.

This is just unbelievable news.

Well, if you're looking to make noise next year, the #11 for Trouba goes a long way towards that goal. The #11 in this draft...?

I think there's also the question of whether or not WPG was moved by the inclusion of Pionk over some other deals that might have included higher picks. Who knows what they were offered. They too want to make noise this year, after all.

It’s especially a lot in a draft that’s got a lot of interchangeable players from 3-12.

Exactly! Lots of 1 Month Hayes and Pionk for Lemieux and Trouba posts....but there is NO WAY the Jets expected to basically be giving up the first they did.

He might even do really well in a 2nd pairing role, but him and Niku will sort that out between themselves.

That's also a good point. I just think it's harder to recoup your losses in their situation than ours.

I think a #1 will inevitably develop out of our system. Pending I on a re-signing and price this deal is a steal. That or Trouba pulling a Redden would be only thing that makes this a bad deal.

Pionk was a free asset. We just took a free asset and someone’s own pick and got a 25 year old 1st pairing D who will play in all situations. It’s going to be real hard for this deal to go south for the Rangers.

I have too much faith in Gorton at this point to think he will do something stupid like buyout Shatty. Almost makes me feel like he may have a deal to ship out Shatty in a deal that somehow brings us back a 1st.
