I totally get it from Winnipeg’s perspective. They couldn’t take back $$$, and they couldn’t keep their player. He would have never signed with them and it would have been nylander with no resolution. They HAD to move him before the draft and I’d guess this is probably as good as they’d get.

Rangers took advantage. The big question isn’t really value of the trade but whether you want a 10% of the cap locked up in Trouba vs another position. I bet a lot of teams were asking that when considering what to give up.
Plus I think Chevy wants to try and resign Myers before some team swoops in with a tax-free offer like Dallas

trouba last year had 50 points, 13th among dmen and played 22:53/game, 35th among dmen...no he's not an elite #1 but on what team is that a 2nd pair dman? if your blueline is so good that he's a 2nd pair guy i'm rock hard already

How the trade negotiation call went:

Gorton (drunk with Rangers leadership in Vancouver): Hey is Trouba available?

Chevy: Yes for the right price.

Gorton (ppl laughing whispering in the background...offer Pionk...offer his pick back that he traded for 2 months of Hayes): How about Pionk and your pick back?

Chevy: Deal

Gorton: How about AD...wait what? (Hysterical laughing in the background...Gorton whispering shut the **** up).

Chevy: Pionk and the #20 for Trouba.

Gorton: Deal....Suc...hangs up the phone.

First off, this deal has me stoked like most everyone else. The rebuild has been an out and out success. Now that we traded for Trouba, I'm even more convinced we are going to get Panarin and at very least go really hard to get him.

Think about this...this very realistically could be our offseason:

We draft Kakko
We trade for Trouba
We trade for Fox
We sign Panarin on July 1.

And to get all these 4 fantastic assets, we give up cash and nothing all too significant.

I'm sorry but this might be the first time in my lifetime as a Ranger fan and we are now approaching 50 years, the hockey gods have conspired to help us rather than f*** us. Not a coincedence that once Gorton was given keys to the Mercedez from Sather, other than the Shatty signing which in fairness to Gorton, Shatty practically begged him to come here, everything he has done and touched has turned into gold.

I said this on the Panarin poll thread a bunch of times and I'll say it again, I think we can make the playoffs this coming season while we continue the rebuild. This is not crazy talk coming from me either. Trouba is a HUGE addition. Man I'm stoked...wow...:)

This is one of those trades where if a Rangers fan posted this in the trade proposals thread I would have felt compelled to apologize on behalf of our fanbase... And yet it actually happened.

who says life doesn't imitate art, and vice versa, cause when do we ever see anyone go there, that far outside the box.... oh, wait a min.

Smith gets bought out.

I hope we dont buy anyone out both Smith and Staal can sit in the press box. Buying them out would only add 4m against the cap for the next 4 years. That's to much against the cap when we will be competing for the cup. I still believe with this trade, that we will sign him to a long term contract but having 4m against the cap in dead space is the wrong way to go. We can trade shatty or keep him and switch Staal and Smith I'd rather let them sit than lose that cap space
