Are Leafs in a cup or bust mode?
Certainly not but if they are trading for picks we would want at the very least two 1st's plus depending on where the picks are.

Secondly the Leafs are competing for a cup this year so any trade for Nylander should take that into account. Nylander helps the Leafs this year so the best trade available would do the same thing.

I think there's a trade with Anaheim that would work for both sides. Maybe Silf , Eaves(LTIR), High level Prospect: Comtois/Jones/Lundestrum/Mahura/Larsson and a 2nd or equivalent prospect

So you Leaf fans excited? Finally coming to and end! You will remember what relaxing feels like. Unless you get a terrible trade haul somehow

It's taken so long I am afraid the damage is done in terms of any new players coming in or even upcoming contracts. Shows how management treats their star players.

Does not look good on Dubas. He is stuck. He is going to look like he caved or ruined an asset.

I think it's either sign or sit at this point. And we've watched 26 games so far without him....so if he sits, nothing changes.

Lol no, that’s just a lot of crap trying to make value

Lindholm or Manson+

No chance they'll trade Lindholm, Manson is fair value but I doubt the Ducks agree with that as they value Dmen and centers much higher than wingers.

I dont think the Leafs are going to get a a fair value 1 for 1 trade at this point.

Then we let Nylander sit at this point. Try again in the summer when more people have room and desire to make changes

If course who is hut more if no deal happens matters; it determines who has more leverage here, as is the case in any negotiation. If one side can walk away from the table with a much lesser cost to themselves then the other party then that gives them a substantial bargaining advantage.

Again as said, Nylander sitting our isn’t the works possible deal: a severe overpayment or trading a controlled asset for pennies on the dollar are both worse for the team then letting him sit for a year.

If a 3x5.5 million deal were on the table right now I sincerely doubt that Dubas would turn it down since said deal would both help keep the team’s AAV down so they could afford Marner and Matthews and also would keep Nylander a valuable trade asset; a bridge deal is the next best thing for the Leafs after a reasonable AAV long-term deal and given the current situation I really can’t see Toronto being unwilling to do such a deal.
However all the reports I have read are that Nylander doesn’t want to sign a short term deal. He wants long term, $8 million+ and I haven’t seen any reports saying he has budged on that at any time recently. If the choice for the team comes down to being between giving him that term and that AAV he is demanding and letting him sit for the season then the beat option is letting him sit, because giving him that terrible contract both destroys his trade value and means that next spring the Leafs face the prospect of letting a substantially better player (likely Marner) leave because they cannot afford him.
Yes, the Leafs rolling over and handing Nylander an $8m+ deal is technically worse, but it doesn't strike me as credible. There was never a possibility that that was going to happen, and if there was it certainly won't now. It's like thinking about the worst possible outcome of a nuclear exchange and pointing out that an asteroid impact would technically be worse.

Sitting out, on the other hand, is a possibility just because it's the default. My point is only that even that shouldn't really be a concern if both sides are acting in their own best interest. It's not a veiled argument for Nylander having the upper hand or some such nonsense.

I hope he resigns with the Leafs and gets a gentlemen's guarantee that he won't be traded that way the bad defense stays bad.

If what you offered is the best the Dubas can get for Nylander before Saturday's deadline I think Nylander will be sitting out the season.
