Knies Matthews Nylander
Bertuzzi McDavid Cowan
Minten Domi Jarnkrok

Tavares and Marner can go away if they don't take any extreme discounts.

Didn’t Dubas already make that gamble on a continuing cap rising…..and here we are again
:)
I'm not saying Tre gambled on it, or that it will happen this time.

Just responding to the posters who say "he won't be worth 11.5 in the last couple of years". It depends on how he's doing, but also on what the expectation for 11.5 is 6 or 7 years from now.

The cap could be 200M and Willy putting up 150 points, or the cap could be 90 and Willy on LTIR. What I gave was a reasonable scenario?

For sure, I usually get my hot rods out by the time the Leafs take their usual swan dive every spring.

There are some that say everytime Matthews goes over the boards that some folks here start revving up their own hot rods:naughty:

Ahh...irony. The first time I heard somone calling someone Paul, I was riding my pet dinosaur. We might as well go right to the knock knock jokes.
Oh, alright:

How many pro athletes does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one - he holds it, and lets the world turn around him.

To be fair and realistic.

I didn't think about it at first but the ticket prices should probably be increased 20-30% right now and the cost of Merch the same. I suppose player salaries should have probably gone up 30% since 2021 as well really. Most other things cost that much more. That being said if we take his 7m current and add 30% we get around 9m and change. Then you can argue he was underpaid to start and his performance is already up so 11.5m is fair.

So really. The disconnect is in the league CAP which should probably rise 15% each year for the next two years to be fair to the players.

Get on it OWNERS, you owe the players a 20%-30% immediate cap increase. (Obviously this mitigates our cap constraints and I won't care about the "overpay")

What give-a-shit? Benn's pts/game is also worse in the playoffs.
Most players pts/game falls off in the playoffs. Difference is Matthews/Marner/Nylander all fall off much more than their contract peers.

it's obvious Benn is out there hitting guys, battling, and being a pain in the ass. He's not necessarily a points guy at this stage of his career.

Looking at pts/game production over the last three seasons (20-21 to 22-23), regular vs playoffs:

Matthews: 1.29 to 1.00 - drop of 0.29
Marner: 1.27 to 1.04 - drop of 0.23
Nylander: 0.98 to 1.00 increase of 0.02
Tavares: 0.96 to 0.74 - drop of 0.22

Benn (career) 0.82 to 0.75.

14th/15th in goals in points in the last 3 years

I really don't think the AAV was THAT much different in the summer. Willy just proved what he could do with 20 mins TOI

Willy was motivated to start this season. Now what happens with his big payday? Will he show that he truly wants to win?
