Tre said all the right things today, but to me he was flat and lacked genuine enthusiasm.
yup but it's still better for me than getting the company paid insiders to make up bs (broke ass Yotes going to offer sheet AM st 20% of the cap or JT getting offered 13/14m by the Sharks , lol) to justify the the deals he hands out like Dubas did

Treliving better not trade any 1st’s or 2nd’s

We will need those players to come through at all positions to plug holes in the lineup for the next decade.

Need the long view, I think
Been saying team shouldn't trade this years or next years first round pick, recoup some solid prospects and when the cap starts jumping, start spending again.

No need to worry about trading any 2nds. Dubas took care of that.

Leafs can't ice a Cup competitive team with 3 players in the TOP 12 highest AAV so lets try making that 4.

There are 32 NHL teams and next year Leafs will have 1/4 or 4 of 12 of the highest AAV in a Salary Cap World.

The other 8 other Top 12 players are spread out among 31 other teams.

Crazy how anyone thought he was getting less than 11 when that’s what Tavares got 6 years ago. Nylander is simply just better than that and he’s paid accordingly. I mean sure it would’ve been nice if he took less but why on earth would he when you really think about it.
At the start of the year, iwas thinking 10 or 10.5 mil * 5 yrs

I think Marner is going to be playing in Pittsburgh soon
Marner isn't going to a team that'll be starting a full rebuild by the time his contract is up , maybe Chicago but i doubt he doesn't re-sign with us.

Why wouldn’t he? All he really cares about is scoring some cookies and counting his money.

You think he wouldn’t want to play with the stars in Pittsburgh? You think not winning a cup matters that much to him?

Apparently, the number has always been $11+ and there was no negotiating. It was call us when you are ready to pay us Tre.

Yeah I am starting to think they didn't have any real options. Like other clubs had an idea what Willie's $ expectations were going to be and he was considered a pure rental out in the marketplace. Teams didn't follow the Leaf's lead in the last round of deals where Toronto go railed and they weren't going to start now. We will see when some other players like Pettersson and Reinhart re-sign.

In any case we know what the lineup will look like this year subject to maybe a Tanev addition. Willie is in the books now and Mitch won't be a thing until after the playoffs.

If they get ousted quickly in April, he might be looking for his big payday elsewhere and Shanny's head better roll.

So wait, you can’t trade Nylander but you can Marner? Same logic applies that you just used right?

Here’s the deal for me, he didn’t have to extract every penny from the team, he didn’t negotiate, he got the number we all thought absurd when floated this summer, and we’re supposed to like it. Terrible for the team, that’s what I care about. Reilly is my fav Leaf now ainec..

Nylander currently has a limited NMC. So that probably affects his trade market. No contender is making a 1 for 1 trade. And Nylander isn’t going to accept a trade to a shitty team.
Either way I feel the time to move either one would have been before July 1st. After that you’ve pretty much accepted these are the guys you build around. Personally I don’t really care, I all they gotta do is win. Win as much as they can and the contract is irrelevant. I’ve always believed Jones is the right goaltender and I got killed for that in the pre-season. You don’t need a 5/6 mill goalie. You need a hot goalie.

What would you call a team that has been top 10 in the league since 2017 to now, and in the top 6 of the league 3 of those times? I'd argue they been icing a cup contender since then.

He will have a better chance winning one here with his friends than in Pittsburgh.

toronto has one championship in most of our lifetimes, the leafs must have looked at the raptors and just said "hey, lets do that" and paid our best players like we have 15 roster spots.
Too bad we don’t have an actual playoff Kawhi. That dude got you a bucket whenever you needed it

Instead we have guys who put up 2 points against the panthers and are called “heroes”
