Rumor: Nylander like Matthews unextended. Nothing to see here.

An important thing to consider when comparing Nylander and Aho's raw production is how inflated Aho is by empty net goals and points.
Also, lol @ people trying to compare Aho to Matthews/Marner. Completely different tiers.

Which years is Aho's production being "inflated" by EN points? Him also getitng those EN points happen to coincide with the role he plays on the team.

Matthews and Marner being on a different tier is obvious, and they're paid as such, and are going to be paid extraordinarily more in the near future as well.

Relative to Nylander? Every single year.

Exactly. Better players get bigger contracts. Seems pretty straightforward.

LOL @ people trying to think of players before the team. That name on the back matters more than logo on teh front. ANd they call themselves "Fans"

Dubas is fired right? Asking for a friend
Honestly, based on some interactions I've had on the main boards, I'm convinced some of these fans actually are fans of the players and their brands and don't actually care about winning.

I also don't understand the fascination with keeping the core of players that has so far collectively won 1 playoff series in 7 years.

You can change it up at this point.
My guess is in the leafs 100 years plus history they’ve generated the most revenue during the Matthews , Marner era. Shanny is a puppet to the board, they don’t wanna disrupt the cash cow.

Unfortunately Shanny is a major issue and it was not JUST dubas

Shanahan is in love with this core, we may lose out on severla 1sts, good young NHLers and a blue chip prispect or two for 1 more failed year of 88 and 34

He is fine letting them set the contracts and take us to the cleaners

Projected Cap: 87.7
Meier Cap Hit: 10.54%

87.7 * 10.54% = $9.24mm

The question is term of course ... and no RFA years in Nylander's deal.

Minimum $9.25mm

I guess that's because his coach trusts him to be on ice when his team is defending a lead in a close game and he is able to help seal the win?

Location does impact compensation.

About $1mm difference in uncomplicated net income.

Quite likely, but how about in relation to cost of living or average salary?

Aho just signed 8 years X 9.75M with a 2M signing bonus every year.

We know centres get paid more than wingers. Aho is also younger with less games played and more points on a lower scoring team with less offensive talent around him.

The cap on Nylander should be 9M with no bonus money, less if he wants his salary upfront every year.

You can try to make lobbing a puck into an empty net sound as flattering as you want, but it doesn't change that it's a result of team-dependent unique situations and opportunities, is not a representation of a player's quality and offensive impact, and it's not what teams are paying for.
