This narrative is pretty old, Leaf’s showed they can win puck battles and stick to a game plan that works against Tampa. Even against Florida they out played florida most games. However it all comes down to that 1 costly mistake they made in each of the first three games. Florida was able to capitalize on those mistakes and convert those into goals. For me this was the most invested playoffs I’ve watched as a leafs fan since maybe 2017. Thought there was tangible progress with the team.

Hopefully they get willy signed and run it back. If not try and get Zach Werenski or Brett Pesce
Yup, about 7 years.

Much like yours, they keep "out playing" teams and losing series due to bad bounces, officiating, or 1 costly mistake.

IMO, If Vasi was was just average Tampa wins that series even with an ailing Hedman.

I thought the Leafs took a sizeable step backwards in those playoffs.

Couldn’t disagree more, they won a god damn round, in what world is that a step backwards. The constant negativity towards everything about this team is so tiring. If you hate the team don’t be a fan.

You could argue that winning a round isn't a step backwards, I guess. You could also argue it was though, we barely beat TB and then shat the bed against FLA who were were substantial favorites against. And all that came after spending a TON at the TDL so the franchise as a whole is worse off than we were before the playoffs, that much seems clear. And if we're worse off than we were, how is it wrong to say we took a step backwards?

Edit - I don't hate the team, but one PO round win in a zillion years with the talent we have had is a massive underachievement, some negativity is to be expected. I'll probably always be a fan but I'm not going to pretend things are rosy in Leafland when the reality is much different.

We didn’t barely beat Tampa, beat them in 6 games. More than a few hard fought come from behind victories. That takes character and heart. I don’t get why people have to try and diminish that series win. It was a hell of a win. They played hard, understood that Vasi is one of the worst goalies in the league when screened and used that to their advantage.

I’m not sure any of the leafs teams in the past 7 years are coming back to win games in OT against Tampa. That was a huge sign of growth.

He was the worst Leafs captain ever and yeah, those were the dark ages.

We're not in the dark ages again surely? There has to be some hope?

Oh right, I'm a Leafs fan.........HAHA!
Just bc the Leafs have a great team now doesn't mean they have a great captain.

Atleast Phaneuf had some pushback.

Their play was really bad. They were out hustled badly and was talked about in the gameday threads.

On a couple occasion I kept track of 50/50 puck battles and it was quite stunning how bad they were.

Their overall lack of speed was their demise.

Yup, it will be great when we have a team of only hard working, hard nosed players, as we just miss out on the playoffs for a decade
Why would you automatically assume they’d miss the playoffs?

Mitch Marner still cannot shoot at an NHL level, but he doesn’t have the work ethic to change it. Is that better, considering it kills their chances on the PP in the the playoffs?

You think “a star-free group of tireless workhorse pests that frequent the blue paint and love to get dirty in the corners.” Would make the playoffs?

No stars at all. No 1C, no 1D… just a nice collection of 3rd and 4th liners working hard?

I agree 100% with this guy.

Then you don't know what you are asking for.

Basically what you both are saying is you want to go back to 2006-2016.

Some of those worked incredibly hard, not all of them but Some of them.

They were all dog shit, even 2013 the year they made the playoffs, they were dog shit.

It's called moving the goalposts and it was entirely predictable. If we had managed to beat the Panthers and then lost to Carolina the experts would have said "beat a team that barely made it into the PO only to lose to a real team like the Hurricanes." And had we beat the Hurricanes and then lost to the GK, there would have been a snappy dismissal of Carolina as well. And so on and so on

Trolls
Malcontents
and boring contrarians

Hitting is overated . Some players hit, some dont. A successfull pokecheck can get you free with no loss of speed. Even a successfull hit almost always slow the game down. If u suck at it , it will always slow u down. Skating and hitting like crazy might look impressive, but it might not be the smartest way to win a game. If u are good att avoiding hits (and then be less tierd) and find open ice , and protect the puck , then that is great skills to have.

Reversed hits on the other hand... those i like. openice hipchecks to. I like ordinary hits to. But i still think they are a overrated part of the game.

lmao half the people itt working so hard to justify workers taking pay cuts to work so billionaires can make more money all so they can feel something come june

y'all know owners forced the cap, right? why do you think that is?

everyone loves capitalism until someone making money interferes with their enjoyment
