Even before the NMCs kicked in, Willy was much more tradable than Mitch, but by corollary more worth keeping.thats great that, it means Nylander can fetch quite a bit in return for the leafs in a trade
Nylander and Marner are the luxury leafs cannot have in a cap world. Leafs have gotta choose one to keep and the other to trade.
Evidence from last 7 years has clearly suggested that the team cannot have success with such a cap allocation the way Leafs currently have.
I personally would prefer to trade Marner, but that ship has sailed on July 1st with full ntc/nmc of Marner kicking in. That means, by deafault Nylander either signs for 8 to 8.5 AAV or Leafs can work with Nylander to find him a team that will pay Willy 10 to 10.5 AAV and get a solid return for it.
Leafs have gotta move on and plan for other things as well. Its a team game afterall once individual isn't going to have significant impact on team results (unless ofcourse its McDavid but thats not the case)
Now the only way to keep him is to tough it out for two more years until JT is off the books.
