When you always start in their end because the coach doesn’t trust you in ours and we win more draws, I should hope so. And he still only managed one shot. Legendary.

He was “okay” last game, he played his best with Kampf, who probably was our best player. He still wasn’t good enough, just less awful.Maple Leafs Can Manage Only Six Shots in a Humbling Defeat

How many players did he set up for shots? Curious, because I watched highlights and he seemed to be moving the puck in the Panthers zone quite a bit. Playing the distributor, something you usually expect the center to do.
#2 William NylanderWhich player below isn't top 7 in compensation in the league getting over $10mm a year?

Hey dude, the fact your mind pivots to Marner every time is what you call a “tell”.
In regards to the “pivot” to Marner:The "tell" has been with Paul Revere level accuracy and that's unfortunate because when I talked about this stuff in the past I really hoped to be wrong. I want to eat crow vs suffer through humiliating loss after loss with this team I have supported for so long.
I hate this but I am invested to the team emotionally obviously, like it's no sense denying it when I post on a freaking forum like this.
I think that captures it. Nylander is always going to be Nylander. But he can still be the softer offensive catalyst of a "heart & soul" type team if we to try and instill a hard culture reset. But you can't make that reset with both (maybe either) of Matthews and Marner still on the team.In regards to the “pivot” to Marner:
If you want to change the attitude, leadership, mind set, compete, core of this team, it isn’t Nylander who is running the show. If you want an impactful core change with a different playoff blue collar approach, what can I say.
If Marner can get you the top 6 forward, top 4 D Tkachuk did, then with Nylander and Knies on the 2nd line you’ve changed the culture. It would have to be the right deal of course. But Nylander isn’t the guy it trickles down from.I think that captures it. Nylander is always going to be Nylander. Agreed. IMO it has to be Marner first. Marner can dipsy doodle all he wants but unless he has a goal scorer to play with, he won't work. My concern is whether any teams would step up and offer what he is worth having seen him cough up another playoff furball.I think that captures it. Nylander is always going to be Nylander. Stylistically I think he could work in the same way and drive a line on a harder nosed team, turn a pair of 20 goal guys into 30+. But my gut tells me that him and Matthews are at the centre of the culture issue. Maybe with one gone the other falls into line?Agreed. IMO it has to be Marner first. I'd be looking at the Jets wanting to change their core. Connor, Helly, Ehlers, Scheiff could all be available. Boeser also asked for a trade and he is a buddy of Matthews so maybe Canucks can offer a nice package for Marner but I think Nylander will be the fall guy.If Marner can get you the top 6 forward, top 4 D Tkachuk did, then with Nylander and Knies on the 2nd line you’ve changed the culture. Tied with Matthews for the team lead in shots, both in these playoffs and in this series.Falling into the matthews-marner trap of previous years where he has the puck on a string but no killer instinct to conclude the play. The play just fizzles away on final execution.
Doesn't help Tavares should have scored 2-3 times on some Willy passes though. Nylander should have a bunch of assists this series based on his overall body of work.
In terms of goals he's been a fail. He's not even taking a look or bothering to shoot.
I haven't either, what is that article?Stylistically I think he could work in the same way and drive a line on a harder nosed team, turn a pair of 20 goal guys into 30+. But my gut tells me that him and Matthews are at the centre of the culture issue. Maybe with one gone the other falls into line?
I hadn't seen the Schenn/dinner article. That made my opinion on this group fall harder than any playoff loss other than Montreal. Something was dysfunctional in that room.
Basically that Schenn spearheaded playoff on the road team dinners this year rather than players all doing their own thing, some eating together, some getting roomservice etc.I haven't either, what is that article?

I love his last quote about how being a close team transfers to the ice. He's absolutely right. One day we'll be able to cheer for a team who has each others back and i will love that group.Opinion | Luke Schenn adds bonding to Maple Leafs’ playoff menu

I agree. Nylander is what he is, a complimentary winger. But if he comes in at another reasonable AAV I'd bring him back. Unlike Matthews and Marner he's not expected to drive the bus, and he doesn't have that kind of cap hit either.Ultimately among the top 4 core forwards he makes the most sense to keep around in a retool situation.
He'll be the cheapest to re-sign by a fair margin, and remains completely mentally unaffected by the external noise, which clearly isn't the case for Marner and Matthews who have a tendency to visually look rattled. He's also clearly not among the leadership group of the team too - which imo is another bonus
And while he will always have glaring issues with his game, he's one of the few to actually elevate their play during important situations other than just fumble the puck around.
