Nylander was amazing tonight.

Skating hard, moving his feet at all times and no gliding.
Great backcheck in the 1st period.

When he plays like this, he's absolutely amazing.

It's no coincidence that he was in front of the net and was finally able to break the goose-egg.
He's been too much of a perimeter player this series and he's just too good of a player to stay to the fringes.

He’s gotta keep this playstyle up for us to succeed

Marner needs to build off this perfomance. Can’t afford him to revert to his 1st period self

Matthews and Tavares gotta start finishing

I think he has a problem.
He used to be good at the dot, but he doesn't even take all the draws now.
He’s been around 54% this run, I doubt that is lower than his career average

Even in this series he’s been very good, above 50%. He is taking only 12-15 draws but that falls in line with his last year totals and the year before that

Only time I notice him not taking the faceoff is when he’s playing with nylander and they are on Nylander’s side. I think that has more to do with nylander being good on that side

There’s the million dollar question

For what it’s worth, I don’t think he is injured right now.

Well, he's definitely not healthy. Can you honestly say his shot has returned anywhere close to normal since last season? He has been dealing with wrist/hand issues all season, wouldn't be surprised if he needs surgery in the offseason again.

I saw Draisaitl be the best player on earth with one leg

A lot easier when you play give and go with McDavid, but agreed. Draisaitl has proven to be an absolute beast.
What about EK65 a few years ago? All I’m saying is - players have been playing injured before. Let’s say that Matthews is injured (……) and not just bad right now, can’t he contribute in other ways than scoring?

How did the Nylander thread turn so quickly into the Draisaitl/McDavid/Matthews thread? I know I'm new here, but, is it that hard to stay on topic?

Excellent game once again from Nylander, controlling the play and getting a positive bounce that he, quite frankly, deserved. Hope to see more of it. I too agree with an above poster that this thread could use a better title.

Looked so good last night, what a beauty. Beast with the puck, Willy goes where Willy wants to go and pretty much nobody else on the Leafs can do the same.

He isn't the best Leafs' player, but he is probably best at a few things.
He won't dipsy-doddle like marner, but marner doesn't do at speed what Nylander does.
Smart player, sometimes does things that gets misinterpreted.
Doesn't hit or like to get hit, but in a puck battle he's extremely effective.
Played some defense last night, had at least one interception that might have saved one, and pressured in the d-zone.

He was quite good in our end as well, he actually won a couple pucks to start the rush. That’s when you know he’s engaged, first time I’ve seen that this playoffs, that defensive hustle. People focus on the flash, without the effort everywhere, it’s meaningless, or more correctly, a deficit for your team. He was an asset everywhere last night.

Now tell me.

Is it too much to ask that he does those little things on the back end with more regularity?

That's what people ask for from Nylander- that he put in some effort at the back.
