There is Willie Nylander and Willie Stylez.
Willie Nylander is okay NHLER while Willie Styles is a superstar.
We need more Willie Styles
Just need this player to play like a warrior and fight every shift ….
It’s not about his talent
It’s all about his indifference and laziness in the playoffs
All players on a team that wants to be champions have to buy in

No doubt. Willie frustrates me the most. And it is not a game in game out thing, he is shift in and shift out.
One thing for certain though, he always pick up a notch or two when he played stupid and bad.

So.

Is everyone enjoying the playoff beast mode Nylander tonight?

Doesn't hit, doesn't defend, doesn't generate offense, takes a stupid penalty, watches Sergachev score from the face-off circle (somehow closer to the net than Nylander) and gets rewarded with a move up to the top line.

Honestly, if he's unwilling to move his feet, he can just pack his bags and f*** right off.
Now tell us what he did after being freed from Tavares.

That's just plainly not true.

Matthews was a force all game long despite not finishing.
All of the little things that also contribute to winning games, Matthews has done them every shift of the 4 games, and Nylander hasn't done them almost at all this whole series.

Points are great. They're reflective of the actual goals scored, but you need not play well to accumulate points.

It's when you play well and get the points that you start to stand out and thus far Nylander has done that far too sporadically within the games.

At even strength, Nylander didn't record a shot until the 3rd period and didn't record a single scoring chance for.

Now, he was guaranteed to score on the overtime play that drew the penalty, so that should be considered, but it wasn't until overtime that he actually did any of that.
Willy scored the winning goal in game 2, set up the tying goal in game 3, and assisted on three of the last four goals (including the winner) in game 4.

Not sure who comes out for Bunting. I would have said Kerfoot, but how can you do that after he scores the game winning goal. ZAR brings toughness, but so does Lafferty and he is a right handed shot. I think I would take out ZAR, who's done nothing wrong but someone has to come out and I need Knies in their.

Knies-Matthews-Nylander
Bunting-O'Reilly-Marner
Tavares-Acciari-Jarnkrok
Kerfoot-Kampf-Lafferty
I think as long as Jarnkrok and Knies, Matthews and O'Reilly, Marner and Nylander make up the top six, it doesn't matter much which wingers play with which centre.

I think most will be satisfied with that third period + OT. Made a sweet pass to Mitch for the 4-2 goal and made the pass to Auston on that brilliant tip to make it 4-3. Also gained the zone on the OT pp, which the first unit couldn’t do to save their life, and even played through a slash to get a secondary assist on the GWG

You could try to hide your hatred a bit:laugh:

Could not watch, but did he get better after a line change? If so, FU Keefe. If not good for him to step up.

Did he play with Tavares all game?
Is there anywere you can find line changes during a game. After a game.
To summarize, Tavares and Nylander started the game together. They were getting torched with higher danger scoring chances against in like 5 straight shifts, that it nearly cost us the game. It persisted for the entire 1st period. And as of now Tavares has a goals against 60 of 6.9.

But after the 2nd period, Keefe broke up Tavares and Willy. After this, Willy went on an absolute tear. The Matthews-Nylander line went on fire, Tavares looked much better and O'Reilly and Knies were great as well. Marner was a beast with whoever he played with and seemed like he was playing with everyone. In the second half we were a completely different team after the changes were made.

It was fairly obvious that this change should have been made before the game, as Tavares got torched in game 3 as well. But it's Keefe. He almost cost us the game. Having Keefe as your coach is like starting every game down 2-0. Then you have to battle your self out of a jam. But at least we're able to win in spite of Keefe and he finally learned his lesson.

First 2+ periods with JT, and they looked terrible.

After they got separated, Willy was the best player on the ice, assisting on three of the last four goals (including the winner).

He also drew the penalty in OT... He was incredible. Poor guy, makes 7 million a year but fans have the same expectations of him as his 11 million dollar coworkers.

Hate Nylander so much you can't even be happy with a 3 point game and drawing the game winning PP. It's been your shtick for years, so nobody is surprised.

Hope you enjoyed the win!
I enjoyed it. Just responded to a known haters and instigator on the board

This season and last season is where I noticed he's a little bit more engaged, he's getting better every year. I don't know what we should do but I wish we could keep him as he's amazing skill wise. I've been always hoping that we get the world championship Willy full time

I love Willy and he’s showed up in big moments, but you can’t deny his game as a whole last night was pretty atrocious.

That said, this is who he has always been and likely who he will always be. It’s the reason he makes $7m not $10m. He’s not “the guy” you build your team around but if he’s your 3rd/4th best player, you’re in pretty great shape.

Here's my Nylander take, and I've said it before. Willy can be frustrating to watch for sure but while it looks like lack of effort that's not what I see. Contrary to what seems to be a perception of him being uber confident, even arrogant, I see a player who struggles mightily with confidence. When he's "lazy" it's not effort level it's confidence, he's unsure, hesitant, afraid to make mistakes and is paralyzed by that disbelief in himself.

Playing with Tavares just exacerbates the issue. Not only do their styles not mesh, but over the last 2 years the chances and goals against have just piled up when they're on the ice together to the point that as soon as they step on the ice together Willy 'knows' it's going to go poorly - so it does.

You can argue he needs to fight through that mentality but it's like telling someone who's depressed to 'cheer up'. If only it were that easy.

This is why i dont think punish him is the right move long term. The only times it works is when he gets put on another line then Tavares. He knows when he suck. He dont need a reminder(even if he said so to seem care free) . He is somewhat forced to uphold the myth that nothing bother him.

I get he plays better with Matthews but even that pairing last night resulted in around 45% xgf%.
Matthews numbers stayed out of quicksand statistically in the moments Marner was on the ice during the shifts. Interestingly, Tavares numbers soars shortly after getting away from Nylander. His game was lousy and the few posters here that were disparaging Tavares for Nylanders performance were dead wrong. I know Nylander can play and he was involved in late game heroics. More than 85% of the game however had him playing anchor and he needs to do better.
He is one of the best players on the team and he cant be playing at the bottom of the pile.
