Speculation: Nylander Discussion - Part IV

Losing him wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The truth is signing Tavares made Nylander more expendable. Tavares > Nylander. A great chance to improve the defence. If Nylander is worth half as much as some of the posters are suggesting here, we'll get our #1D.

But I thought he’d never be traded and you could afford him? Now all of a sudden he’s available for a defenseman no less! Strange how everyone said that before the holdout except leafs fan base, with countless threads on the subject, but now it’s acceptable, and it was probably your idea in the first place even!

No I understood that very simple thought, along with all your other simple thoughts. Maybe you should go back to the Leafs board where everyone will agree with you and you won’t have to get so emotional.

You keep telling me to ‘go back to the leafs board’, why?

Didn’t you say ‘cheers’ a few posts ago? Why are you still practicing your ‘conversation’ skills on me?

If you understand my simple points, then why are you still whining about where I’m posting?

If you truly understand, then we agree. If Nylander signs an offer sheet, the leafs will match it. If it’s too big an AAV to carry, they will trade him.

Simple, easy and logical. No reason to carry on ... unless, you have different motives I am not aware of?

You realize you can find a Leaf fan take almost any position because of the sheer amount of us. Nylander might be traded but we've also talked about trading him for a long time.

The most likely outcome is still he signs a deal.

Even if you stop at the AAV being too high for the Leafs to carry it has already lowered his trade value simply because of that. You’re falling way behind here.

Have you visited the Leafs board? We don't agree on a lot of things. Here's a thought stop assuming Leaf fans all think the same way.

I mean when you look at Draisailt stats and Nylander , its literally the same , both played with franchise center.

Tbh if Nylanders up 61+ points and even more with Matthews as partner idk why he would only get 6m. Seems Ridic.

He wont sign for less because ''its Toronto'' lol.

The fact that you think I have been agreeing with you for the most part yet you’ve been rude, condescending, and saying my posts are pointless is hilarious. It’s like you just want to argue for the sake of it.

It’s honestly like talking to a wall

And the Oilers has great odds to win last year, while Vegas has the worst. Tampa has had a very good and well rounded club for many years, the same can’t be said about Toronto
Your attempt to cherry-pick the placement of teams last year means nothing. Know who was one of the top teams picked to win in 2018? Washington. 2017? Pittsburgh. 2016? Pittsburgh. I could go on.

The leafs are a great team. They were a great team last year. They will be even better going forward. You can stay in denial, but everybody sees it.

The cost of living and everything else is also very high in TO to offset the dollar difference. Also every item has its price adjusted for being in Canadian dollars.
Lol, I can tell you've never been to Toronto (or Canada?).

14-15m + endorsements would go a lot further in Toronto than 11m would in a lot of US cities, especially considering the biggest point of difference (housing) is more of an investment than an expense.

You’ve signed one big name free agent in the last decade.
The best free agent in the last decade, after our first year being competitive.

Except they really aren’t the same at all...not to say Nylander isn’t a hell of a young player. I’d say he’s easily worth 7.5

7.5-7.75m seems about right maybe 8 if u push alot but yeah , nylander can also play center which make him even more valuable. Toronto got salary cap , but having huge talent = huge paycheck . Gotta pay to keep them.
Toronto or not.

I think you’re just having issues because you can’t handle someone not agreeing with you. You act all high and mighty but have yet to say a single
Intelligent thing. Just stop. Go back to your safe place.

An honest poster, bravo.

It would have been so easy to blame a slip of the finger...

:thumbu:
That's basically what it was. I'm well versed at this point in the RFA process. Sometimes I wish we had the options to sticky things so we don't have to answer the same questions over and over

Easy to see why the Oilers are in cap hell with that logic. Nylander won't get anymore than $7 million. He's done nothing to show he's worth more than Ehlers or Pastrnak.

If he had a 70 point season to go along with his 61 point seasons I could see him asking for $8M

Lol

I guess when Nylander signs an offer sheet with Carolina for around 8m and the leafs match and then he follows that up with a disaster of a year and the leafs can’t trade him, leading to them not being able to sign marner and Matthews you’ll really have shown me!

Sure, after a calendar year has elapsed...

Also, try to find a retaliatory OS in the history of the NHL.

Yeah the whole “target on their back” thing is just stupidity.

The Leafs will be a cap team and not able to offersheet. No other team is going to be offended on behalf of the Leafs either.

How many OS have there been in the history of the NHL? It’s rare to begin with. Doesn’t really prove what you’re hoping to prove

What are you even carrying on about?

Shouldn’t you be busy pumping someone’s gas?

Cap hell?

No they really aren’t. Lucic and Russell are their worst contracts m, but neither relates to having star RFAs making good money like you suggest.

I've said it a hundred times, but why would Nylander sign an offer sheet from a crappy team for the sake of $500k - $1 mil a year?
If the teams that are being discussed here wanted to get him to sign, you'll have to blow his socks off with 8+, which would be 4 1st round picks, which I would happily accept.
8.1 x 4 years will get the Leafs a 1st, a 2n and a 3rd.
