Is that what you took from my post? Try reading it again maybe. So 17 games wipes out there entire careers to date?

You're making it sound like the fact that Nylander is blowing Marner away so far this season is irrelevant. It's not.
Leafs probably should have been a bit more aggressive trying to sign him this summer
Is this a sudoku puzzle? The stat categories are missingPlayer A View attachment 770964

Which player would you sign for the same money ??
I didn't say these 17 games are "so valuable compared to the entirety of there careers to date", I said they're not irrelevant. It's also not like these 17 games are so out of context compared to the rest of his body of work, he had his best season ever in 21-22, then improved on that again in 22-23, now he looks like he's gotten better again, much better. He's also been more consistent than Marner in the playoffs, he doesn't seem to wilt under the pressure the Marner has often done, that means lot to me.Again I'm going to ask, why are these 17 games so valuable compared to the entirety of there careers to date in which Marner has been the better player statistically?
Over 600+ career games 17 of them is pretty bloody irrelevant until it comes to a new pay day it would seem
The way I'd put it is that he doesn't seem to be in any rush. And I keep repeating my mantra - if he signs a new deal, then outplays Marner by a good margin this season and then watches Marner get more money, I think he'd be pissed. So he's in no rush. There’s no indication they weren’t aggressive. My guess is Nylander is stretching this out as long as he can. They bent over for Marner and Matthews, but not him, so this is Willys time

Player evaluations are in a constant state of flux. How much weight should be attached to these 17 games is unclear - this isn't an exact science but it's not nothing. It's not even the number points, it's the way he's playing. Have you been watching, and if so, what's your impression of Nylander so far? For me, it looks like he's moved up a tier, he's dominating and playing the best hockey of his life, he's basically gone from star to superstar. Maybe he turns into a pumpkin by Christmas, maybe he turns into a pumpkin next season, or maybe he's like Marchand, and has reached his peak later than most players and will be a force to years to come, nobody can know for sure.
Once again, all I'm saying is that these 17 games are not nothing, not by a long shot. If I had to choose between him and Marner today, I take Nylander. I'm sure many would do the same, and many others would take Marner. I can understand and have respect for those opining that Marner is still higher in the pecking order, but Nylander is my choice.

If they could offer him 11 with the guarantee that Marner won't get a penny more than 11 as well, I think he'd sign today.
what are you trying to say with this?

Never got a discount on Mattys contract after a significant 'down' year, but if Willy has a significant 'up' year now, we'll be paying that premium. There's no control over paying stars in this city.
hes had 1 ppg season his whole career, i just dont understand after all the complaining about these guys as a whole and our lack of depth etc why we are in such a rush to continue to overpay them lol.As Pierre Lebrun said, it isn't just this year.

yes, just like JT was when he signed with us even though other teams would have payed it or more.Is it overpay if half the league would pay it?

if a team is going to offer william nylander 12m and william nylander wants 12m i say goodluck and god bless. or i work out a sign and trade immediately, and marner would be next if he asks for some ridiculous number as well.Have to disagree.
If other teams are willing to pay between $9mm and $12mm then it isn't a Leafs overpay, it is market rate.
Lol. Games, goals assists, points, pims. There’s no indication they weren’t aggressive. My guess is Nylander is stretching this out as long as he can. They bent over for Marner and Matthews, but not him, so this is Willys time

Yeah, that is pretty much the definition of what market rate is (i.e., what other parties would pay for the same asset).Have to disagree.

What any desperate club might pay isnt really market rate, its just a number. If you are paying $11 million for a player that was getting under $10 million a year ago thats a decision to reset the market based on the ample cap space you have that other clubs might not. If you don't have the need or the space your number is different.Yeah, that is pretty much the definition of what market rate is (i.e., what other parties would pay for the same asset).
Mitch isn't a particularly good PKer, as the stats show. He is good at short-handed goals.i mean willy DOES deserve less than marner though, how much is open for debate, but saying he doesnt just isnt true, marner has outproduced him at every stage and he might be the best PKer in the league.
It's going to take more than 17 games to convince me that Nylander is a +11 million dollar player in this league.
He's off to a great start, such a skilled player, but come on, have folks not seen hot starts before?
521 games @ a .825 point rate.
Last year @ 1.02 point rate.
17 games @ 1.588 point rate.
Playoffs @ .8 point rate.
Two words: Jonathan Huberdeau
There’s no indication they weren’t aggressive. My guess is Nylander is stretching this out as long as he can. They bent over for Marner and Matthews, but not him, so this is Willys time
BurnI see more marner in Huberdeau than Nylander.
Goals % of Total Points
Marner 30%
Huberdeau 32%
Nylander 41%
