He should have hit him himself is what he should have done. Just brace yourself, keep the forward motion driving into him leading with his shoulder is the instinctive play if you're not afraid of contact. If he does that then he doesn't get hurt, they take each other out of the play and all is good. There is a difference between being scared and thinking you will get hit so trying to avoid it...
He should have taken the hit and had the puck taken away that way though, you're right.
Nylander's pull up in the corner/for any puck battle where he might get hit is much, much worse.
It's cool though the way you deflect all criticism of Marner by pointing to Nylander, Kucherov or whoever else. Not a good look sir, there's nothing wrong with every once in a while just admitting that Marner does some really dumb shit every now and then. And that dumb play resulted in giving up a short handed goal, saying that Nylander pulling up on occasion (and not, it's not always) is much, much worse is just ridiculous and a very biased point of view.
I didn't realize that about Bucyk, that's pretty amazing. I do remember that he was a very respected player, as classy as they come and they called him chief.Willy wants a big payday, and is making a hard case for it, Bertuzzi and Domi not so much. I always loved the Bruins legend Johnny Bucyk, he only signed 1 year contracts, said it kept him honest. They don’t make em like that anymore………
