I dont care if we sign him for 9.5 long term if he doesn't get NTC NMC.

Should be the norm in the league. NMC should not exist

Make 7 figures for a corp they need you somewhere you go or risk unemployment. In Hockey they get to play sports and whine about a city or whatever. Its a farse

Sure but lots of places in the NHL have that. Nylander as a UFA would have a lot of suitors. If I were him I wouldn't sign with a team that's going to be spending at least another 3-4 years of being at the bottom of the league
Agreed but if they really wanted to trade him this year he cannot stop it. They just wouldn’t get as much as with a mutual sign and trade, but it might be better then losing him for nothing

Exact same situation for me. I want to move to Collingwood full-time but wife doesn't want to pull the kids from school in Toronto. It's probably an age thing, but at 50 years old I no longer have any use for the city. Car has been stolen twice, crime everywhere, nightmare traffic, homeless encampments on what seems like every street corner, and the prospect of a mayor that is probably quite content to double down on all those things.
Sounds like an advertisement to pull your kids out of that school district, not keep them there.

Me too. I am the only one among my friends with kids still in elementary school.

I really enjoyed my 20s and 30s and now I'm paying the price, lol.
Pre-covid we looked buying a summer house in PEI. Obviously we wouldn’t take the chance on living up there now, but there are lots of people from Ontario moving to Atlantic Canada and the prices are jumping.

Whine and Nylander is uncongruous.

You must be thinking of some other top end Leafs' player.

I'm curious if he's after a long term or wants to go mid term like Matthews?

We really would like to see the 10 team NTC wouldn't we?

Wonder if it was a strategic list, or just places he wouldn't want to live.

Welcome to the debate between private and public school. It is almost universally a ludicrous decision, which I reminded of when I drop my youngest at his school in our Nissan and watch a Bentley pull up beside me to drop off a kid in his class.

Columbus is a great city.
Columbus Ohio has one of the highest crime rate for cities of that size in the entire US. According to US census 1 in 26 residents will be affected by violent or property crime.
Sounds like a great place

Friend of mine had one of his kids recruited into Webber Academy here but the offer didn't include his other kid so he declined. It would have been subsidized as they wanted his kid.

He thought long and hard about it. At the time reviews didn't show it prepared the kids any better than public schools here, but his thought wasn't about that so much as who they'd be rubbing shoulders up against, and how that might be of long term benefit as adults. Really wanted to climb the rungs of society ...

...

I think they'd miss Nylander beyond his scoring and offense. He seems to be able to face adversity without freezing up. Is he too laid back, plays because he loves the competition, but maybe lacks hatred of losing?

Perhaps they should encourage him to take more of a leadership role? Just not sure Keefe is the guy to do that, but with the new coaches, maybe Keefe takes more an execute coach role?

I’ve only ever been in the arena district. Never felt unsafe compared to say Buffalo or Detroit.

Worth remembering how a middle aged, middle class fan views the pros-cons of a city is going to be a LOT different for what a young, unmarried millionaire values when chosing s city/team to play for,. especially long term
Absolutely. If I was in Nylander's position, or anyone like him, a big city would be what I want. At the same time, when he's 50 he will probably want to be living in Sweden.

I have been to the Columbus convention centre years ago and it wasn’t bad. Never been to Buffalo but Detroit many times, my stag 35 years ago with some of my American race friends was at a strip joint in Detroit called Antex. I don’t even remember much. Lol

we now live on our little hobby farm just outside of a small town with 1200 people about 20 minutes southwest of London.
If we get 3 cars at the main intersection at the same time we consider it gridlock.
I couldn’t imagine living in a big city

What sport was the kid recruited for? Hockey I assume.

There is ZERO point in trading him. The Leafs are in win now mode and he would return NOTHING close to a similar player. Then you have the no trade list where he can pick the teams with ANY cap space. And IF somehow the Leafs find a trade partner Nylander can just basically nix it by refusing to discuss any contract. So which team with cap space in the league would want him as a rental? NONE.

By the trade deadline, there are usually LTIR players that open up capspace.
That said, I agree with you that the team will get anything that will help them from the select teams that would grab him as a rental.

Same here, we live on 5 acres backing onto the Niagara Escarpment between Shelburne and Collingwood and other than taking my wife to the airport (for which I extract a dear price indeed) I’ll only go to Toronto for weddings or funerals. Nothing is worth the headache anymore……….

Love that area - I have in-laws in Angus, Barrie and Collingwood, just sold a house in Wasaga, and I'll be playing in Stayner next weekend.

Nice, we’re in Hornings Mills, I put going to Barrie almost as bad as Toronto, that place is just too busy, and with most drivers being commuters they’re more suited to a NASCAR track than a provincial roadway………

MMs contract is the direct result of the Matthews contract and Dubas trying the old 3 card Monte, by feeding Marner and his people that the Leafs couldn't pay him 9 and a little more than 2 months later laid down 11.6 for his team-mate and fawned over him at the press conference after they treated Mitch like just some jabrony on the 4th line, when he did nothing but lead the team in scoring and looking like he "might be" the best Leaf since Keon.
