With a 87.5 million cap that's $12,359,500 in space for those 2 blanks.
Then Tavares comes off. I would guess Knies and Marner's raise take half of that and they can add more D depth.

Does that mean MM is gone if they don’t win or come close this playoffs?
Bc we all know MM is licking his chops when Willie signs for 11.5mil and JT is signing less than 11mil with his next contract.
Can it be Drai for MM trade this summer?

11.5 is not good and I love Nylander. The only way this makes sense if they are preparing to trade Marner or not sign him. If not, we have issues because you know Marner is going to ask for 13.5+
Let Marner and Tavares walk and spend that 22million elsewhere, Ekblad, Provorov, Konecny, Bennett, Verhaege, Mangiapane, Ehlers, 3or 4 of those hopefully make it to ufa

Disgusting.

11.5 is pathetic.

Who in the world was going to give Nylander 13.14 x 7 on the open market?

This also means he was asking for more than 11.5 as he's "negotiated" down to this number. This management team has no interest in winning the cup and it's basically impossible next season after this type of deal.
It's going to be tough.

I believe someone posted a possible lineup for next year and it's not horrible.

Then gets way better when Tavares is done

Make a poll.

1.) Use Marner or Nylanders cap space to balance the team

2.) Keep them both at huge cap hits and try your luck finding Coleman, Goodrow breakout players instead

Which scenario is most realistic to bring success ?

The answer is obvious. Number 2 is the easiest way to win. Number 1 is basically a crap shoot and you lose a star in the process.

Not true. With the rising cap they’ll be fine. It’s really only 1 season (next year) where they will rely on cheap contracts and even still they will have $12mill to play with in the off-season.

The plan seems to have always been just get Tavares’ money off the books.

The thing is that the only part of his game that has improved this year is his effort which is why this is all so risky.
He was really good last year for 2/3rds of the season as well. Feel like this season is a little too cinderella like for me. Its just everything is going in that he touches and feel like he's not even actually playing that well for quite a while.

Nothing about Nylander's underlying numbers suggest this is unsustainable.

For comparison, Nylander has a lower on ice shooting percentage and PDO than Matthews and Marner.

He's just been that good this season.

We just need to be really smart with the rest of our deals next year.

I think Robertson gets traded for a dman this year.

Minten takes 3C role, possibly Cowan makes the team next year. It’s going to be similar reset to Colorado. Lots of ELC’s and add at the deadline.

Then the following year once Tavares expires yips rebuild depth.

We gotta hang on to this years first rounder. It’s a deep defenseman heavy draft.

I've been on cap friendly for weeks and 11.5M for Nylander is workable next season and is comfortable the season after even if Marner gets a raise

We don't have to choose one or the other, we can have both pretty comfortably

I'm not saying I love this Nylander contract because I don't but it won't kill us if we use our cap money wisely

That means no Kampf, Reeves or Timmins
That's 5M being wasted we can use more wisely elsewhere

Nylander is pretty private. Unless they are literally talking to his representation or Nylander’s immediate family, doesn’t seem like the kind of info that’s just floating out there to be had. Whitney is a blowhard anyway.
Could be somebody talking to his dad.

I doubt that Whit is just throwing it out there. These guys are very well connected in hockey circles. Matt Murley on the pod lives in Sweden. Maybe he's hearing something.

Like I said, his dad was very well known for being a selfish guy and had several contract holdouts. This wouldn't surprise me one bit.

For the sake of argument let's say we actually did fill up Nylanders cap hit with decent players.

But then what happens when the cap goes up and all 31 other teams can now add more guys? Your balancing just got shot because the gap between non-star players isn't huge.

Only way to remain ahead of the league at all times is to keep your stars and make smart depth moves.

The main diff is assists and most probably 2nd assists. As I find the PP is running through Willie a bit more than last year. Also others are putting the puck in the net more after Willie’s feeds or his rebounds.

I think his goals total will be over 40 but might not get as many assists as he is getting now moving forward.

He's putting a 50% increase to his previous best season. That and it's not like he's entering his prime years . Hes been in those for 3 or 4 years already . Seems like a carreer year to me.
Hes always been a guy hard to keep focussed and motivated . Being a contract year all this just seems a little risky .

Wouldn’t surprise me either honestly, I just am skeptical of these kinds of bits of info because they just feel to me like things only the people closest to nylander would know.

Who knows though

Keep seeing Minten in these depth charts. What if he needs more development time with the Marlies?

Again, the defence isn't really improved either.
