He’s been improving every year, so I don’t see why people think this is unlikely to be his new normal level.

He’s currently nearing the end of an offensive forwards physical prime, and hockey players don’t improve indefinitely and rarely this much at this age.

Do I wish we'd have signed him at the beginning of the year for 10-10.5? Of course. Am I mad we are keeping him for 8yrs? Absolutely not. With T-Money coming off the books soon I think we'll be alright so long as we sink that money into the back end of our roster.

I love watching Nylander play, and for that matter I love watching all the Leafs play.

I will never hold it against anyone for asking for any amount of money. Where the hell is the adult in the room to say no?

My kids when they were young could ask me for the moon. I had the foresight to see it wouldn't be for the best.

I don't get it

Any talk of winning being a priority from any of the core is pure lip service. They to a man(save Rielly bless him) squeezed this team for every last cent they could get from it. More power to them if money is your main goal in all of this...but don't act like it isn't.
Hoping they draw Florida in round 1 and Florida takes it to them. Let's see how much they care about winning. Lose and Shanny will hear it like no other year.

Probably should have been a bit more aggressive in the offseason. Not sure he would have accepted a 10-10.25x8 deal but would have been worth trying.

Well that’s f***ing stupid. Yes let’s hope they lose

Do we have our pick next year or is that gone from the McCabe trade? We are going to be so f***ing tight next year with everyone on a high price pre Tavares contract ending that not having that pick might hurt lol

Everything about this Nylander negotiation strikes me as pure incompetence.

Low balled him in the summer (apparently were offering high 8's), and now between September and January they've somehow moved up over 2.5 million dollars a year in their evaluation of the guy.

Do they really believe someone was going to offer him 13+ million a year on the open market?

And why do they feel they need to sign this contract now? By all accounts, you're paying the absolute premium. Why do it now?
