Should have signed him in the summer before Matthews, number would have been under 10 now 11.5
He needs to accept the deal lol.

Nylander said all summer "what's the rush". He was being nonchalant about the negotiations and kicking the can down the road so that we'd reach a point where the risk of letting him test the market was too high, i.e. a month before the TDL.

11.5m is about 1-1.5m overpay for what he really is. For a guy that was moderately underpaid for most of his previous deal, this pisses me off less than what Marner will ask for. He'll ask for 14m after doing zero to deserve a raise.

It’s definitely rich, but I’ll put it this way.
If Nylander gives us the kinda play he has this year for even 5-6 years of this deal it’s good value.

Nylander is a very talented player, but I’ll be honest - I’ll be absolutely shocked if that happens.

More likely is this half season is an outlier.

He'd have to get paid 13.1 mill a year to make 92 million on the open market.

Just a truly baffling decision to give Nylander this contract right now.

yikes
11.5M / yr
if true.. horrific.

what sucks is the agent raised the price during his good play

Tre coulda got it done in off-season at a lesser number , now hes paying for it

I'm just so tired man, we've been held hostage by these superstars and Dubas' f***ing up negotiations so bad in 2019

That 1 year destroyed this team

No doubt.. set the stage and the cap structure and may have ruined the best set of young players this team has had in living memory.

You could legit have let him hit UFA if you were willing to give him this much money lmao if we were willing to offer him 92 million on July 1 in a bidding war...we would win. We are bidding against ourselves right now? The f***ing rot in this organization is from the top right through to the players.

Given the way the cap is projected to grow, if Nylander gives us the kinda play he has this year for even 5-6 years of this deal it will end up being good value. The Leafs I think understand their window is the next 5 years to do something with their star players. If you win no one will talk about this decision, if you don’t then you’ve opened yourself up to some significant criticism for the way these deals have been done. It’ll be interesting to see how the dominos fall from here. This is a very clear statement that nylander is key part of the solution here to them.
2 of those 5 years will be wasted managing the cap and then the third year you can start building & hope nobody gets injured and actually performs in the playoffs which none of them have done consistently. Good luck, these guys f***ed their legacies. Most unlikable group in the history of the Leafs.

MLSE: pay him whatever he wants. As long as we have these stars we are printing money. f*** the bottom 6, they don’t make us money.

As a business I’m guessing most owners would say exactly that. Maybe not publicly, but that would definitely be the sentiment

Matthews 13.25
Nylander 11.5
Tavares 11
Marner 10.9
Rielly 7.5
Total 54.15

What’s the cap suppose to be at next year?

Bad contract. Nothing much more to say. Again, cool he's staying but once again we're paying a premium where other teams get a little bit of grace from their stars. At least Nylander is signing for 8 years.
