Not sure if it's been mentioned but Ryan Whitney said on Spittin Chiclets that he heard Willy's dad is pushing him to hold out for more than that reported 11.25M number. Wouldn't surprise me with his Dad's history and Willy's last holdout.

My question is how would anyone possibly even have that kind of info.

Nylander is a very good player and he’ll get paid somewhere. But how the Leafs can hold on to 4 players making 10 Mil plus in a salary cap world and round out the rest of team with enough talent to win a Stanley Cup to me at least , doesn’t seem realistic.

Usually the answer from the naysayers to that line of thinking is that the salary cap will increase enough that the contract value will be lower in real terms. But the problem with that argument is that all players by then will be making more as well.

I believe, at some point, the Leafs are going to have to trade one or two of these big contracts and add more talent throughout the lineup to win a cup.
imo it will be tough for you guys next year. But then Tavares is off the books.

The issues is how good will Nylander be in his mid 30's with this cap hit...

The part you ignored is the fans (or media) doesn't sign the players. If the fans and media pressure the GM into overpaying players, we need new GM's. You can post to your heart's content and it wouldn't affect me one bit if I was GM.

I'd rather go for Reinhart than Nylander if we get a discount. He plays centre, is the better goalscorer, and way more physical. Nylander also plays with the better offensive system and players and is allowed to cheat defense for points way more than Reinhart.
I am not sold Reinhart is the better goalscorer.

Florida played zero D last year and with very little structure.

He is more physical and I would love him as the 2C when Tavares contract runs out.

11.5x8 for a guy with career high of 87 points..lol

they don’t care about winning, they’re printing money

This AAV definitely seems high.

Would people prefer 11.5x4 like Matthews' contract or 11.5x8?

Friedman basically said it’s done, announcement probably on Monday, 11.5m

Right now on Sportsnet

It’s definitely rich, but I’ll put it this way.
Given the way the cap is projected to grow, if Nylander gives us the kinda play he has this year for even 5-6 years of this deal it will end up being good value. The Leafs I think understand their window is the next 5 years to do something with their star players. If you win no one will talk about this decision, if you don’t then you’ve opened yourself up to some significant criticism for the way these deals have been done. It’ll be interesting to see how the dominos fall from here. This is a very clear statement that nylander is key part of the solution here to them.

Paying Nylander 11.5 for when he's 29-36 scares the f*** out of me. He's been this level of player for a few months now, the rest of his career hasn't been close to this level

You should be scared.. that will turn out to be a boat anchor of a contract. The question is why aren’t the leafs scared?
