Well to be clear, Nylander was not overpaid and wasn't part of the Cap concerns.

Rielly and Nylander have never been the issue, the issue has been the Double Digits.

Nylander's contract was spot on.
I don’t think 88 earned the first year of that contract, maybe not even the second either, but he’s definitely earned a raise. How much is the question, and it’s not double digets imo……..

Just for argument sake I guess.i m not
Sure I keep Nylander if he's not signed.if he wants to stay he can

Well I'm optimistic fan backlash might force someone's hand
Nylander or treliving .remember this very agent has a history of bending tre over
this agent made tre look like a fool once .if it happens twice shame on shanahan for hiring him

After the point streak snapped, he had some poor luck, and I think the poor luck impacted him. Went 3 games without a point, but has points in 3 straight now.

The post-crossbar-post, post, post, crossbar, leg kind of deflated him. I thought the last game he started to look better and rather than post, it went in. His demeanor didn't look all that different though. You see other players react poorly on the bench (if you watch other teams) but he just seems to take it in stride, although his effort on the ice at times betrays him.

Nice to see Keefe still giving him some PK time.
82 games last year 18:52 PK
23 games this year 15:29 PK

Matthews doesn't look like a $11mm player before his raise kicks in.
And marner is looking better, almost as good as Hyman. I don't think you can question his effort, more his decision making, and performance under pressure.
Not referring to points or his demeanour. Earlier in the year he was carrying the puck with purpose, was always the alpha dog on the ice. He’s looked more ordinary lately.

Having two grossly overpaid players is worse than having one, and I’m not including 34 in this discussion………..
Sure, but there are people of the opinion that you sign Nylander for whatever 10.-10.9 (Marner's #), then sort it out later.

For me, it's likely time to pick one; if it's Nylander fine, then Marner moves.

Those people of that opinion are fiscally Pejorative Slured imo, delaying getting your finances in order always cost you in the end. If you trade 88, you’ll get something in return, if you let 16 walk you gave away a asset. No easy answers in this equation………

One could also argue that Nylander @ 10.5 for 6 is better than Marner @ 10.9 for 1, then 12.5 for 5 years after that.

One of them has to go imo, it makes no sense to continue to ice a team with half the cap committed to 4 players. Im thinking they’ll roll with it until said four players have moved on to try and win a cup elsewhere………

I agree. The issue is that it's now so late in the game to make this move—five years of trying to make this cap structure/allocation with little to show for it.

That’s why 88 is the odd man out imo, you can still recoup something for him being that he’s the only one that can be moved. If Woll is out long term the Leafs are just as likely to be sellers at the deadline as they are being buyers, give that some thought……….

In what world do you think we’re not making he playoffs and we’re going to be sellers??

The world that realizes that Samsonov and Jones as a goaltending combo sucks, especially with a Swiss cheese defense and elite forwards with questionable work ethic………

They will if they’re going to miss the playoffs, so yeah, there’s a chance………

They won't miss, and if it ever was in legitimate risk closer to the tdl Tre would certainly spend assets to keep them in the race.

Shanny and Tre aren't retooling or rebuilding.

If they’re missing the playoffs there’ll be a yard sale on anything without a NMC, book it……….

Not unless they're way out of it near the deadline. That's unlikely.
Duh, yeah that’s the scenario, lets see how they play without Woll, and whether the stars show up game in game out before we anoint them a playoff spot……..

oh, and the D, lets hope they can defend………

They have 59 games counting Nashville left and would need to pace for like 50 points in those games to be conclusively out of the race by the deadline. As bad as they are they’re not going to pace 20-29-10, anything more than that and we’re in the middle of a wildcard race by the deadline and won’t sell.
