The best thing to happen is for MSLE to tell Shanahan to give nylanders camp a firm date
After that the fan base can decide if he's going to be theit own rental or deal him
Its serious not to lose players for nothing
Leafs aren't a dynasty with him anyways

Not sure what you mean, "fan base can decide" are you suggesting they have a vote and let fans decide?

Just for argument sake I guess.i m not
Sure I keep Nylander if he's not signed.if he wants to stay he can

The fan base can decide? How does that work?
Well I'm optimistic fan backlash might force someone's hand
Nylander or treliving .remember this very agent has a history of bending tre over

If the Leafs cave to Nylander's demands and he gets his $10.5-$11 mil then Leafs will have 4 X players next year making double digit AAV and Leafs will be in CAP HELL :madfire: like we have never seen before and NO team would come close to comparison.

Clueless Dubas really screwed the Leafs through his incompetence by neutering its competitiveness and we wasted a tank rebuild and loading up on young talent because we skipped the cost controllable years RFA years and went right to paying our Core players UFA prices on 2nd contracts., We blew our best chance at a Cup and that makes me furious.

BT is almost forced to perhaps walk away or trade Nylander now and mercifully wait until that Tavares contract ends to get back to having only 2 forwards making double digits Matthews and Marner and then trying to build a Cup competitive team around them with the cap space saved.

Interesting, well maybe the Leafs should be the ones to break the stereotypical mold instead of losing a very valuable, tradeable asset for nothing by walking him right to the off-season as a UFA, free to negotiate with 30 other teams.

The options before us are overpay, walk to UFA, or reclaim assets back in a trade.

I hear we need a defenceman.

Hard to see that happening with a GM as traditionally minded as Treliving

Great snipe on that goal but he looks like a different player than earlier in the year.

No, then they'll have

Matthews @ 13.25
Marner @ 10.9 >>> 12??
Nylander @ 10.5?

Then, presumably, a new 2c at 5-7m and or Tavares re-signing. It's effectively the same issue, with no clear picture of the defence.
Not at all if your firm on keeping the cap organized then marner should not be 12 mil we have cap space to get a second line center that’s not driving play

Why shouldn't he be @ 12 if Matthews is @ 13.25?
I’m not complaining on what they get it just won’t work marner should not be at 12 period he’s not comparable to matthews period there’s more to the game then goals and assists

Says he want to stay but if he decides to move on instead?
Only option is to present him with a contract, if he accepts he stay, if he refuses he goes. It’s not rocket science, and no, I wouldn’t keep him for a “own rental” that’s just bad business………

Maybe playing your best in your contract year is harder work than he thought it would be?The guy certainly lit it up for a few games, but he’s now come back down to earth imo……..

Well to be clear, Nylander was not overpaid and wasn't part of the Cap concerns.

Rielly and Nylander have never been the issue, the issue has been the Double Digits.

Nylander's contract was spot on.

If he has a number that Leafs won't agree to but other teams will then see if he'd like to go to the other team(s), and negotiate the best deal.

If it is a number Leafs don't agree to and he won't re-sign trade him as a rental or keep him as a rental.

If you can trade him as a rental for another rental in a position of need (Hanifin/Pesce/Walker) and depending on that piece plus(es).

$12M for Mitch "the elite PK reputation" Marner

This franchise is a joke.

Great snipe on that goal but he looks like a different player than earlier in the year.

After the point streak snapped, he had some poor luck, and I think the poor luck impacted him. Went 3 games without a point, but has points in 3 straight now.

The post-crossbar-post, post, post, crossbar, leg kind of deflated him. I thought the last game he started to look better and rather than post, it went in. His demeanor didn't look all that different though. You see other players react poorly on the bench (if you watch other teams) but he just seems to take it in stride, although his effort on the ice at times betrays him.

Nice to see Keefe still giving him some PK time.
82 games last year 18:52 PK
23 games this year 15:29 PK

Matthews doesn't look like a $11mm player before his raise kicks in.
And marner is looking better, almost as good as Hyman. I don't think you can question his effort, more his decision making, and performance under pressure.

Agreed

However because of the 3 X double digit players being overpaid and their Cap consumption problems, it impacts the surrounding cast as there is less money and cap space to go around.

Matthews is getting a raise starting next year and Marner is expecting one the year after, so there goes Willy's raise.

Is Nylander making $7 mil now not perhaps fallen into cap casualty supporting cast and not much different then paying Bertuzzi $5.5 mil on a 1 year deal as there is only a $1.5 mil difference in cap space and a lot different then the 3 players making + $4 mil?

When you OVERPAY your top players the middle gets squeezed out and you need a lot of bottom filling cheaper contracts to balance out your Cap spending and build a supporting cast.
