Weird time to be a Canucks fan 2024
I feel like the Isles would be giving guys 15 year deals if they could.
Guy has never scored 20 in a single season. Is that worth a 7 year deal considering his lack of physicality and spotty/mediocre defense?I’m one of the few who doesn’t think the contract is bad but man, how can you be so big, strong, fast and even skilled yet play so soft? Dude is 6’5, 220 with wheels and incredible shape yet he’s as soft as baby shit, shies away from any physical contact and it tanks his whole game. He’s got speed, skill and size yet his softness ruins the whole package. What a stupid giraffe.
He may pull it together but damn what a frustrating player to watch!!!
At this point, I expect all deals given by Lou to be 7-8 years deal. Chances are at this point that most deals will outlive him.
Engvall is definitely not the type of guy I would give 7 years to. At least not at a 3m AAV. Unless I'm missing something, Engvall is serviceable but not the kind that is irreplaceable. If you draft well, you can get ELC/RFA guys that do the same job.

Point remains the same.I'm a Devils fan...
If the cap is rising as much as they are saying in the next 2-3 seasons, $3M per is nothing. Low risk in that sense, and if Engvall plays in his current level it'll be a great deal.
That's because the Isles 1st line would be the Leafs 3rd line.He played well above a 3rd liner after Lou rescued him from the land of playoff despair.
And the Isles backup goalie would be the best goalie you’ve had since Curtis Joseph. That's because the Isles 1st line would be the Leafs 3rd line.
Very similar to the Miles Wood contract. This is nuts. Who in the world are they bidding against.
On September 12, 2006, DiPietro signed a 15-year, $67.5 million contract with the Islanders, topping former teammate Alexei Yashin's contract signed before the start of the 2001–02 season of 10 years.[14] Newsday reported that the team offered him a 15-year contract in September 2005, but the NHL front office discouraged the Islanders from making such an offer. Instead, DiPietro had signed on a one-year deal with the Islanders.I feel like the Isles would be giving guys 15 year deals if they could.
They're still paying Dipietro until 2029I feel like the Isles would be giving guys 15 year deals if they could.
He was bought out a while ago, there's no cap hit anymore . . . you might want to at least spend 10 seconds checking that on Capfriendly next timeThey're still paying Dipietro until 2029
You know you have to pay him still if you buy him out right? He's being paid until 2029 by the isles.Engvall had 17 goals in 76 games last year, how is that not worth $3 million? And he's a plus player every year he's played. He basically provided help with two of the Isles biggest weaknesses . . . a 3rd line goal scorer and speed. His zone entries were better than most of our forwards and his zone clears were really good too. Laugh about the 7 years, but if he just continues to do this he'll be an excellent long-term piece.

He literally got paid $1.5 mil yesterday. I know it doesn't count against the cap but he's still being paid.
But why is that relevant if it was a compliance buyout and doesn’t count towards that cap?He literally got paid $1.5 mil yesterday. I know it doesn't count against the cap but he's still being paid.
So what? The Isles owners are billionaires. Big deal.He literally got paid $1.5 mil yesterday. I know it doesn't count against the cap but he's still being paid.

This thread is about the islesSo what? The Isles owners are billionaires. Big deal.
Now worry about how much Jarry will cost to buy out in 2 years when he's run out of town.
Shows a long line of poor decisionsBut why is that relevant if it was a compliance buyout and doesn’t count towards that cap?
