I love that we are now over 1/2 hour into the NRY networks coverage of the Kings turn on media day and have yet to discuss the Kings at all.

Classic.

Vapid Tappin just said "The New York Rangers get their turn coming up next".

Like everyone else she has the Rags carved into her subconscious.

ACcording to the main boards, boyle is now a stud in his own zone and will get get time against kopi if the rags have a lead. they are even calling him elite defensively. Never thought I would see the day.....

I was a big Boyle fan when he was with LA, and probably overrate him.
With that said I hope the rangers use him to match up against kopitar.

Did you know Quick has been average? He fly's out of his crease and Lunquvist is so positionally sound.

Can't wait for the Rangers to figure out that Quick has been average because he's facing high skilled offenses like the Hawks...

The Rangers have played against high octane offenses too (hello Pittsburgh).
I agree that a lot of Ranger fans are over hyping their team, but I do think that currently they are entitled to puff out their chest when it comes to the goalie match up. It's all they really got.
I think Quick will play his best games of the playoffs, and this will be a great goalie showcase.

Guys, I know that neither team has won anything yet, but just going on the assumption that the Kings do win the Cup. I have a question: If someone said to you half way through the 2012 Season that the Kings will win two of the next 3 Cups, what would your response have been?

Friendly question there, boys.

Before or after the coach was fired? While they couldn't score?

When the Kings got Richards, that was a big deal, and that put the Kings on the map. At least it made people know they existed anyway. At that point, Lombardi was saying he's expecting this team to take another step, 2nd round, maybe 3rd if you get lucky. Half way through 2012, it didn't look like it was going to work. Gagne, the other big addition the previous summer, was hurt. Lombardi might have been in danger of being fired at the end of the season.

In the middle of the 2012 season, the Kings had been to 1 Cup Final, and 1 conference final, in their entire history, which was with Gretzky, 20 years earlier. The Kings maybe winning 2 of the next 3 Cups, with 3 consecutive conference final appearances, and multiple playoff records? I'm not even sure if one of those things was a glint in a Kings fans eye at that point. Just getting out of the 1st round was difficult enough to picture.

Pit chokes in the playoffs...
Lundy out played MAF... shocker...

Niskanen (however you spell it) was absolutely terrible on D... Loved when he left the guy open in front of the net... like 10 feet open..

Letang was coming off injury and didn't look that great.

Sure they got Crosby/Malkin, but beating the Pens in the playoffs doesn't really impress me. Kinda like the Sharks/Blues those teams just find a way to fail.

Edit: Man that post was a little harsh... HAHAHAHAHH...

I'll go against the grain (what else is new). I had the mindset that if the Kings simply made the playoffs they'd be in good shape to do some damage. I felt that team was one piece away from being a legitimate contender and we all know who Dean acquired at the deadline. Quick's 2011-2012 season was as good as anyone's I've seen in 20+ years of watching hockey and being a Kings fan. My faith never wavered with him in net healthy.

This season I felt the same way. Any time you have #32 in net (even though he hasn't played consistently elite) this postseason, you have a chance to win. Gaborik was yet again the missing piece for the Kings.

This team will be a contender for many, many years to come with the core of Kopitar, Carter, Doughty, and Quick.

That's one and they were 5th in the league in scoring. The Kings on the other hand faced 1,2,6. So they went up against 3 high octane offenses. Quick didn't play to the level we are use to seeing but I think those teams deserve much of the credit behind that. And for some strange reason the team decided to beat all 3 at their own game. Which to me is the most impressive thing about this team right now. They for 82 games had the best defense in the league and couldn't score but now seem to be able to score at will. If we can start playing just a little better D we will look amazing. And the fact the NY hasn't put up those great of numbers on that side should help us in that area.

I also thought the Canucks were grossly overrated and were also an extremely mentally weak team that were in the perfect position to get railed. And the Kings did just that. All the trials and tribulations the Kings faced throughout that season - from the numerous 1-0 and 2-1 losses, to the offense being rubbish - made them a much stronger, mature, and closer nit team, something the Canucks weren't. The Kings were on another level. Another reason why we beat the teams we did. Vancouver, St. Louis, and Phoenix were to busy *****ing to the refs, playing dirty, and trying to get the Kings off their game while the Kings were to busy kicking their ***** and winning games. It will go down as the defining moment for this core. I remember that game in Detroit being the turning point of this team.

I've heard it all! Whaaaat a joke! The Brian Boyle who's 6'7" and soft as butter who we couldn't ship out fast enough Brian Boyle!:laugh::laugh::shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

Boyle is a pretty good defensive player these days. Stop hanging on to 5 years ago.

There's a pretty big gap between "pretty good defensive player" and "elite defensive player," though.

This is the part that gets me, especially with Chicago...we pushed the pace right back with the odd man breaks and such. Doubt we try to turn NYR into a track-meet series. We'll be back in our comfort zone which should also allow quick to not keep seeing two-on-ones with some of the most elite offensive players in the world. But it's fantastic that we're adaptable just in case. The adaptability part--being able to morph our team into whatever we want--is amazing to me and something i'm not at all used to as a fan. It used to be "we're playing defense, like it or not" to "okay Chicago, come at me bro."

Exactly this. I believe my exact statement in 2012 was if they get their foot in the door they're going to make some noise.

Brad Doty already quoted you on this, but I've been saying this the entire playoffs. How the team went full on chameleon and were able to beat teams as good as the Sharks, Ducks and Hawks is pretty insane. It's so out of character, it's shocking to me. Granted, we did see the Kings lockdown D from time to time when it needed to happen, but I find it hard to believe the team has forgotten its identity in such a short amount of time.

The Kings kinda remind me of a comic book character who just discovered a new super power (goal scoring). They realize they can now beat teams with offense and at times have relied too much on it, but finding the balance between offense and defense is the key to winning this 4th series. I fully expect the return of the "3-2 league" style of play and if the Kings execute, they should prevail.

I don't care about what their fans are saying.

I want to beat the team and everything it and the whole NYC IS THE CAPITOL OF THE UNIVERSE bullcrap that they are supposed to stand for.

The fans are just hockey fans so lots of common ground.

My dislike goes deeper into the way the league is governed then just the team.

But most of it is just for fun and I am enjoying the heck out of being in the finals again. I was super busy during our last run and didn't have the time to enjoy it is much as I do this time around. I am way enjoying it.
