But I don't want to count my chickens before...

Man, that Colbert gif is creepy on second look.

At Islandermania RickyRed39 has been posting stuff about the sale claiming to be close with Barroway. He has been spot on with everything he posts. He had Philly lawyer way before anything was reported. Rose Tinted Visor is a well respected poster and claims to have an inside source. He has been around way to long to think now he is making things up.

Rose Tinted Visor is not RickyRed, so two people confirming it. RTV claims he got a text saying the deal was done and will be reported after the Cup Finals. Why hasn't BillD confirmed, he's been awfully quiet.

BillD said DURING the Finals. He actually said during the Conference Finals and/or Cup Finals. I remember that distinctly. Hell who can forget something like that, made my heart skip a beat. Regardless, makes sense for the NHL to announce it AFTER the Cup Finals, why distract from Cup Fnals.

Don't want to get my hopes up but it is interesting that there are a few pretty decent sources all saying the same thing. I'd love to see how the offseason goes with a new owner in charge.

I think it's a slam dunk that when this team goes to Brooklyn, it will be with a new owner(s). Even if this isn't true, it's likely to happen soon.

I'm not a big fan of it being barroway, but beggars can't be choosers I guess. Although I'm waiting for more legit sources to report before getting my hopes up.

After past ownership embarrassments, I'd be amazed if the NHL didn't thoroughly vet any potential owner. That not only means making sure they have the funds, but that they aren't going to treat this franchise as a toy or political football. That's just my gut, while I'm not easy about these things because of the horrors I've lived through.... I'm optimistic that anyone approved of ownership will be better than what we currently have.

If and if it is a big IF he has money to spend and is willing to spend it is a huge improvement over Wang. He is also a "hockey" guy so he is slightly less likely to blow it up compared to other new owners

Scott, I am still here. To clarify, I did NOT say during the SC Finals. What I did say was it would be either after conference finals or after SC finals.
I am enjoined by the Mods from posting anything that they can not verify if I pass it to them first, which is the rules of the Board and I agree to comply with. I am just reiterating what I said, but can not verify.
BTW, Vinnie Piccollo's statement is his opinion but I have no reason to dispute it.

I have to feel you are correct. After the Spano fiasco the NHL had to get much greater disclosure and confirmation of assets available for an acquisition. It was easy enough to check Spano's worth and assets but they just took his word for it and didn't do any investigation. Now THAT is Mickey Mouse.

I know some people think Bettman's a liar, but I think he will always be a lawyer in his speak, and his comment that he's confident Wang will make his decision before the start of next year is a tip off to me that it's a done deal and he'll leave the announcement to Wang/Borrowaway.

Would be really interesting to see if the Isles have their wallet open come July 1st.

I know we're still a little afraid of a new owner coming in considering what we've been through with owners. I'm trust though that now the NHL does there due diligence when it comes down to these kinds of things. I'm just hoping whoever is our owner next over the cap floor that we've been accustomed to these last couple of years.

being (moving into) in the biggest market in the us, i cannot see the nhl allowing another owner to take over and repeat the same process. having the islanders a strong team is good for the league. especially with the move to brooklyn, and the recent successes of the rangers. i think (hope) bettman has done his due diligence with this move.

It will be quite the feat if this club is sold within the next month and the GM, whoever he is, is in place and deals can happen draft day and in July. My first thought is it would mean Snow stays through until the end of July as he knows the team and already had a game plan in place. My second thought is if they immediately roll out a new GM, will the guy rush and screw up the draft and free agency?

If Wang is gone should we even give a ****?

My guess is that Snow stays. First, Wang probably gave him an extended contract that Barroway would not want to pay for if he could help it. Also, Snow knows what we have in the system and on the roster, knows where the bodies are buried. It makes sense he stays, but with an experienced assistant GM below him and an experienced President he would report to above him. He sure is not acting like he is going anywhere.
I would love it if they brought Jimmy Devallano back from the Wings and installed him as a V/P and special consultant. Maybe get Pup as President. Both are exceptionally competent, not just ceremonial alumni.

Just a couple of months ago, the NY Posts reported Burroway had offered Shanahan the choice of Team President or GM.So, Burroway clearly is willing and ready to replace Snow.

Also, I would think giving a GM an extension, would have been reported by someone in the press. Wang's team went from a spirited first round playoff series, to the 5th worst record in the league and you think that earned Snow an extension?

To be fair Snow has tried and tried but we know the lack of the lure. Not trying to be an apologist but the guy has tried to sign players (most recently Vanek) and is not low balling them either.

Unless snow gives up picks players have been ubber reluctant. The guy recognizes the needs this team has but can't seem to land the needed players despite his efforts.

Heck, if I am not mistaken the guy tried hard after Schneider but the Canucks weren't interested in a Nino package.

I did not know Barroway offered the GM job to Shanny. I thought it was President only, but will take your word and say I am surprised. Shanny has NO front office experience.

As for an extension, just a guess on my part as Wang is very loyal to those who do his bidding (keep the payroll low).

If Wang is going to sell the team I don't know why they don't announce it tomorrow or Tuesday. The first game of the finals is not till Wednesday so you have a 2 day break. I think the longer the Islanders have between now and July 1 to get the house straight the better it is for the team.

Down about 3/4 of the way into the article below, is the comment about the Shanahan job offer.

As for Wang being loyal..he's trying to sell the team. I doubt he is looking to saddle Burroway with a GM, that Burroway does not want to keep. It's one thing to put in a good word for Snow, it's another to sign him to an extension, knowing Burroway wants to replace Snow.

According to a well-placed source, Brendan Shanahan had been courted during the winter by Andrew Barroway, who is seeking to buy the Islanders. Barroway was interested in having Shanahan become either GM or president of the club. Brooklyn’s loss becomes Toronto’s gain.

Snow bought high and sold low on a 5th overall pick. Snow's pick.

And while I understood the idea of exchanging Moulson for the more skilled Vanek, it was Snow's job to get strong value for Vanek, if he could not convince him to sign an extension.

Both moves were pretty bad for the franchise. Huge moves, that wasted young, high end talent.

(Edit QP)

That sounds awesome!! Could it be that we see also Pat Lafontaine back with the Isles?

Me too, there where some reports of Gretzky as president of hockey operation to a team in the east, but i guess that was rumored with the Caps.

The rumors were with the Caps, but Barroway reportedly asked Shanahan, and someone threw Messier's name out there (but I think that was just as an investor).

Right now, all we can do is speculate but I think we would see Snow would get one last shot next season if the sale is completed.
