Yes, thanks BillD for sharing These News. Hardly not to get excited about that! Can't wait to see it finally happen, this board will go nuts :-)

I have been trying to pass along what I was getting, but not for purposes of trying to show how smart I am or that I am seeking affirmation.
We have all been through a long, hard, 20 years of Islander pain and disappointment and if there was a hint of very good news that seemed to be from a source that proved accurate, i wanted to find some way to share it with all of you and not get hammered or piss off the Mods in the process.
Many times I hesitated because I doubted the good news myself (called islander self doubt that anything good could ever cmd our way).
Now it appears that there is a fairly sound basis for what has been revealed as events followed disclosure. The last and final piece (announcement of the transfer of control) is purported to be days away.
I, as much as anyone hope there is no trapdoor at the end of the road. From what has gone down to date, I feel confident that this will turn out as indicated, and our long hard journey back to respectability, back to relevancy, back to winning is at hand.
That is my opinion.

As much as I want to say the same thing can anybody blame him? This is quite possibly the best news we could get next to a Cup and as Isles fans hVe been let down multiple times. I tried not to get my hopes up but how can you not get kind of excited?

how is 1 owner with loads of $ but unwilling to spend it, selling to another owner with no $ and no ability to spend it a good thing?

Barroway is NOT what we need. We need a deep pocketed owner who wants to hire the best people & then get out of the way. Barroway doesn't have the $ to run this team the way it needs to be run. we will be shouting for his removal after this offseason when we do relatively little.

yes, i think everyone got that attitude of yours and that is not for "self posing" or anything. We Isles fan endured some of the hardest times. I believe the way will begin back to repectability and hopefully back to a winning attitude all over the franchise. So let's Keep our fingers crossed !!:)

Don't want to get my hopes up but it is interesting that there are a few pretty decent sources all saying the same thing. I'd love to see how the offseason goes with a new owner in charge.

Unless I'm missing something, are a few anonymous posters on internet message boards now considered "pretty decent sources?"

After past ownership embarrassments, I'd be amazed if the NHL didn't thoroughly vet any potential owner. That not only means making sure they have the funds, but that they aren't going to treat this franchise as a toy or political football. That's just my gut, while I'm not easy about these things because of the horrors I've lived through.... I'm optimistic that anyone approved of ownership will be better than what we currently have.

You know this is a fair point, but maybe the way that we're beyond done with Wang, maybe the NHL is as well and just wants a fresh face as owner.

I did not know you were Barroway's personal banker, or have inside knowledge to the wealth of his investors? In all honesty, it cannot be worse than Wang, and the league will not allow an owner in if they felt he would be horrific. From all accounts, Barroway is getting rave reviews.

(Edit QP)

That sounds awesome!! Could it be that we see also Pat Lafontaine back with the Isles?

Sigh. Why is it that every lovable player on the ice is immediately assumed to be a good front office person after they retire? I used to think Garth Snow was quite feisty on the ice...

Lets all hope the Rangers get swept so this deal can be announced and we can start our next chapter!

If the rangers get swept and then an Islander sale is announced a few days later I will do something very dramatic...Something so dramatic that I need time to think about what I will do.

Suggestions welcome.

Give me money? :handclap:

You might be right, but right now we don't know anything for sure except the fact that Wang MUST go. Therefore some change is better than status quo. We have no hope if things don't change.

I said "dramatic." Not senseless. :)

My suggestion of what to do... punch Milbury in the face… But then run away before his shoe gets you. My suggestion of what not to do… celebrate in public like Joe Thorton... after a four goal night. You should be alright otherwise.

I do not think you understand how these transactions take place. Barroway is far from poor but he is not close to being as wealthy as Wang. I do not know B.'s net worth but it is more than ours, and from his investment portfolio's that are public, it could be estimated that he might be personally worth in the tens of millions$ to $100MM. He has been a very successful class action lawyer that has won several high profile suits against major American companies. His hedge fund operation, while small compared to others, has investments in the $100's of millions, and in one case owns the stock of a large company to the amount of $350MM.
As a hedge fund operator he pools money from investors for a special purpose.
The fund created by Barroway and his investors in this case was to buy out Wang and own the New York Islanders. It has nothing to do with operating the Islanders. That cash flow will come from the already established revenues we all know about and are public knowledge: i.e. about $120-130MM annually. Revenue less expense equals profit. The expenses of operating the Islanders will be much less than revenues, even if the team spent $65MM on player payroll, the single largest cost of operation.
I hope this clarifies how this works. The investors will get dividends on their investment from the profits, which are all but guaranteed by Barclays, NBCTV, Rogers Cable, MSG, NHL revenue sharing etc.
As long as revenues are greater than expense, Barroway will not have to dip into his personal funds to support the team.

That's good information. I did not know this little nugget. Thanks.

Make chowda, serve at end of the rainbow while singing the rainbow connection and turning the worm. Invite Petrov, and Bonzo.

Barroway has INVESTORS though. What other teams are like this in the NHL? Aren't the Pens like this too?

An article came out a couple weeks ago saying that Barroway is the type of guy that wants to hire the best people and sit in he press box to watch the game (I will gladly look for this article).

Would you really expect Barroway to spend $15 million in ONE offseason? Do we expect him to throw the bank at Vanek, Boyle, and Gaborik? Shortly after he has bought the team for around $400 million, I would think his investors would be willing to throw money at 1-2 guys.

Barroway has no money YET he has gained investors and wants to buy that team for an outrageous price. What screams "no money" to you?

Barroway and his investors will spend money, but it should be on a new coaching staff, scouting department, and GM before we throw the bank at Gaborik, Vanek, or Boyle.

To play Devil's advocate on this. Patrick Roy has never been an NHL Head Coach, and he was excellent this year. Steve Yzerman has never been an NHL GM, and he's doing a fine job in Tampa Bay, same for Joe Sakic in Colorado, Vice President in charge of all player moves along with Roy. John Davidson never worked in the front office, and helped turn TWO franchises around. So there is precedent when it comes to former players moving into management positions.

There are examples of both, but the fact that these people are former players doesn't make them qualified or under-qualified for the position. It only means they have one thing in common, being former players. Hiring people simply because they were good hockey players is like using all the guys in upper management as current roster players. Being good at one doesn't equate success at the other.

Thank you for giving us some positive and very welcome news.

Good explanation of the money picture here.....I hope everyone gets it now.

Who was Snow's mentor? Yzerman had Ilitch, Devellano, Holland, Nill, etc.....Roy ran and coached a minor team his son played on and was in the Montreal organization to see the works, Colorado and had amazing coaches. Joe Sakic had the Avs organization set him up as a VICE President. Davidson.....years and years in the business AFTER hockey.

Snow....retires after being made GM. Not assistant GM, not in the front office learning...no, immediate GM. He's not the first to be such a figurehead....look at Bobby Clarke.....but it wasn't a bright move for a team DESPERATE for quality management to just grab a warm body.

Who was Snow's mentor? Wang's puppet strings?

What I think is funny, is if BillD would just start his post with "I think....." and then posted all of his insider info, it would be 100% OK. But once he says "he knows a guy", it is no longer allowed.
