NY Islanders Sale Talk Part II

Anyone who would even consider Dale Hunter for any position in this organization has no business being an Islander fan. I understand there are times when teams have swallowed some pride and hired a retired player or exec from a rival team because it was the smart thing to do but Dale Hunter, in my opinion, deserves every bit of hate from Islander fans who saw that incident. I still cringe when I see that hit in my mind. To this day it's the worst act of cowardice and poor sportsmanship I've ever seen in any sport. I literally wished him dead that night(really, I'm not kidding), and when I see him behind the bench now I still get angry. I could never accept him as part of the NY Islanders.

Agreed. Muller I might be willing to overlook and move on from, but certainly not Hunter.

At this point, I couldn't give a flying fig who leads the Isles to the Stanley Cup, only that they get there. And I am old enough to have lived through the Muller and Hunter episodes of Islander history. If Dale Hunter by some extreme twisted logic of the Hockey Gods was to be the individual most responsible for hanging another banner in the rafters to go with the other four I witnessed so many long years ago, then after thanking those same Hockey Gods, I would pray to 'the Hunter" before each game, as Tavares prays to "the Bossy".

My uncle is a lawyer on long island and he said that his firm just took up a case where the Marriott is subjected to foreclosure from Wang. Guess Wang is really getting out of everything involved in/near the Isles/Coliseum.

good get lost wang. i cant believe how hated this man as become. it must be terrible for him to read and see how people just hate him.

I remember BillD saying something about Barroway being announced as owner after conference finals/Stanely Cup finals if I'm not mistaken. Any update on it Bill?

Would not read anything into this.

I worked there for over 12 years and that hotel was foreclosed on twice in my time there and at least 2 more times since.

So as we have all heard the LA Clippers will be sold for 2.5 billion dollars!

On the radio this morning the question was "If the Clippers are worth 2.5 billion dollars what are The NY Yankees, L.A. Dodgers, NY Giants, etc.worth?

Does this sale have a ripple effect across the entire sports landscape.

Are the NY Islanders now worth 400 million?

Does Wang think he now can get more?

The reason the Clippers are worth so much money, just like the Milwaukee Bucks getting sold for $550m is in large part due to the new monster TV deal that is coming soon to the NBA which each team gets a large part of. The new TV deal blows the old one out of the water and is making the value of franchises go through the roof.

The funny thing is the Clippers are being sold for roughly $2billion yet they don't have an arena of their own or a practice facility. Sterling owns the practice facility which the new Clipper owners would have to rent off Sterling or work out a lease. So that's $2billion for basically the team alone.

Now imagine what the Brooklyn Nets are worth when you incorporate the Barclays Center to the deal along with the new $40-$50m practice facility in Brooklyn. Looking at the forbes valuation prior to the Clippers sale, the Nets could be worth $2.7billion. Not a bad investment Mr Prokhorov...

But the new TV money coming soon is the driving force along with the major media market the Clippers are in.

I totally understand what you are saying and can see why the percentage jump is so high for the Clippers. But I still wonder if there is a ripple effect with the percentage jumps being less depending on the team/league circumstances.

What I wonder most is if this gets Wang thinking he should hold out for more which would be typical Islanders luck.

I think $400m is the ripple jump for the Islanders if that makes sense. The Rogers and TV deal in general by the NHL has happened and the valuation of the islanders was roughly under $300m due to the uncertainty with certain things like the arena etc.

Now Wang has set the price at roughly $400m taking into account the Barclays lease and tv money etc so I think the this is the NHL ripple effect happening.

There was a bidding war for the Clippers. If there's a bidding war for the Islanders, then the price will increase. If not, then not.

Unless Wang deceives himself into thinking that there are offers when there are none, this is a non-issue.

The possibility remains that Wang doesn't decide to sell the team at all. That's always been a possibility, and what happened with the Clippers won't effect that.

Let's hope Wang see's it this way and does not become pig headed.

I think the reported sale price of the Clippers has caught everyone in the sports world off guard.. I laughed when they said they could go for ONE billion, now they're apparently going for twice that..

I really, really hate to say it but the most responsible thing Wang can for himself do is re-evaluate how much the Islanders are worth..

Sorry but if the Clippers can fetch $2 billion then there's gonna be a dozen people who will now be thinking "holy crap in 10 years the Islanders will be worth a billion.. I can get them now for $400 million??"...

Hopefully I'm wrong but the amount the Clippers fetched may force Wang to hit the pause button and see what else happens.. see who suddenly has an interest in having a lot of fun owning a pro sports team and then really cashing in some time in a decade or two..

The comparison potential buyers should be making is to Prokhorov buying the Nets for say $300m and seeing their value north of $2billion now.

But that's the NBA, a growing brand with a huge tv coming in 2016. The NHL has struck their new deal as far as I'm aware so prices of franchises shouldn't jump up due to the Clippers sale.

$375m is still a big price to pay for the Islanders.

Sports franchises are going up in value because people don't DVR it so ads are still seen. It's the last destination real-time viewing experience.

As long as that isn't disrupted in some way, pro sports teams (including the Isles) will continue skyrocketing in value across the board.

:shakehead

You are absolutely correct, If I were Wang I too would hold out just to test the waters a bit longer. The irony with the Clippers is that The building which they practice in is owned by Sterling and so they have to pay rent to him to use it lol

More reports that a deal is done and will be announced after the SCF....

Who the hell is Vinnie Picollo ? Interesting his nickname is Rose Tinted Visor, and the guy at Islandersmania is Red something. Wonder if they are the same person ? BillD said it was gonna be during the Stanley Cup, this Vinnie guy says after the Cup. Either way, getting very interesting. I can't see even NEW management dumping Snow so close to the draft.

I can see Snow and Capuano getting dumped if the early season struggles continue.

At Islandermania RickyRed39 has been posting stuff about the sale claiming to be close with Barroway. He has been spot on with everything he posts. He had Philly lawyer way before anything was reported. Rose Tinted Visor is a well respected poster and claims to have an inside source. He has been around way to long to think now he is making things up.

Around the time the Barclays lease was announced, there was speculation that Wang might sell. I think it was the NY Post that reported, if Wang sold the team, he would ask for $300m from would be buyers. Many fans and media members laughed their ***** off, said he'd never get that for the isles. they pointed out Forbes had valued the isles at $154m.
