Ummm no. In October I would have agreed with you, but now all Volchenkov has become is a human bowling ball barreling towards Pekka! I'd trade him for nothing if I could.

Based off how the coaching staff has used them, I'm not sure they'd agree with you either.

Neither are world beaters, but if I had to roll one, give me the A-Train

I can ask you the same thing...what's not to see? Giving up assets for a depth D-man and a scrub bottom 6 guy is not what this team needs. You give up your 1st, Leipsic, and whatever for a Kessel type. I did not see a crushing need for depth D, still don't. So unless this leads to the Cup being paraded down Broadway I think the overpayment was real for both Franson and Santo. Agree to disagree.

Maybe this is just the appetizer and Kessel for Jones is next. I know you guys really love Jones and I can understand that but if you want to win the cup, that's the trade you need to make!

Jones for Kessel makes your team scary!

We needed the depth. Do you want Bartley and/or Volchenkov playing in the playoffs? One injury and it gets ugly extremely fast. We also needed more scoring from our bottom 6. Nashville just got better without subtracting from the roster that is holding them at 1st overall.

As for "1st, Leipsic, and whatever for a Kessel type", that's going to be a BIG "whatever". Leipsic isn't scoring goals. He's projected to be a 3rd or 4th line player (basically Santo) and some are saying it's doubtful he'll get consistent playing time in the NHL. Plus there's the whole issue with him never acknowledging Nashville in any way.

Good trade for both teams.

Really think you guys are poised to make a serious cup run this year. Will be cheering for Franny and Santa for sure, such great guys and strong possession players..

We overpaid badly.

Not really, you might love Leipsic in the AHL, but I'm not sure he'll ever make an impact in the NHL (and according to Bob McKenzie, there are NHL scouts that feel the same). At his absolute best, Leipsic might reach Santorelli's level right now, but if that's what we're holding out hope for, let's just re-sign Santorelli. A low first hurts to give up, but not too much really, this is a fair price.

...Santorelli wouldn't sign your stick and jersey at one of the Admirals Autograph Corners, hey?

;)

Geez, the last time I even thought about getting an autograph was Jeff Cirillo's at Brookfield Square when I was like 8. And I even thought that was awkward when he agreed to sign autographs there for two hours.

Leipsic is the piece I would have the most issue with parting. Given that Franson and Santorelli very well could be rentals, I could see the frustration. They'll certainly be excited to play for the team that has a decent lead for the Presidents trophy and is all but a lock for the playoffs though, so I wouldn't rule anything out.

Leipsic is an undersized winger, albeit one that can score and play with an edge, but skill AND size should be more valued by the team, as it's hard to deny this isn't the biggest team, and I think this trade indicates that.

Also thought of the rumors of Leipsic not being too excited to be drafted by Nashville, especially given the recent Brandon Lemieux situation (though to be fair that one is a lot more concrete.)

Probably had to add a little bit more to convince them to take Jokinen
Very pleased about that.

You're returning to Nashville where your career began; that’s an easy storyline for the media, but does it matter to you?

“I’m extremely excited, Nashville has always felt like home to me. It’s where I started, and I loved it there. When I got traded from there, it was a day of mixed emotions. I had a made a lot good friends there and knew a lot of great people, so I was sad to leave. I’m very happy to be coming back, and I’m excited about us competing for [a championship].â€

I don't understand how anyone can think we overpaid badly in this deal. Please explain in detail?

I think it has more to do with our first and one of our better prospects, a prospect who most have been looking forward to, being traded for 2 rentals. I do understand the trade and think it was close to even, I don't like it though. I would have done the Franson part, but I really really really really hate losing Leipsic. I would have rather sent Watson or someone else.

I think losing Leipsic will bite u guys in the butt in a few years. He was one prospect I really didn't want you guys to lose. I am extremely familiar with his game in junior and now in AHL and he is going to turn into the type of little s#@* that every team loves to have. Has potential to lead a NHL team in scoring or lead the team in hits and pims. I hate saying this but Leafs are lucky to get him

You're going waaaay overboard here, maybe if it's the worst team ever assembled, like 5 times worse than the current Buffalo Sabres. I don't think anyone here will lament the loss of a third liner in a couple of years, that's Leipsic's upside, 3rd liner.

Bob Mckenzie:

Some scouts peg Leipsic as potential 3rd/4th liner tho some say he's not a lock to play regularly. 7-28-35 in 47 AHL games this season.

I'm just gonna log out and let this **** settle in a few games before i think too much.

Gave up way to much for a bottom pairing PP specialist and a 3rd liner.

Picks and a bottom tier prospect should have gotten it done, leipsic is not a bottom tier prospect, by any means

Here's a list of just LW prospects in the Preds system that you could easily argue are either better than or just as good as Leipsic as prospects:

Fiala, Kamenev, Aberg, Vesey, Arvidsson, Kirkland, Salomaki.

I know this is HF boards, but I just don't understand why everyone is lamenting the loss of Leipsic.

Bob Mckenzie:

Im not sure if youve ever actually seen him play but the kids skill is unbelievable. If he plays with another skilled player and clicks with him, look out. I know people may think im mental saying he has potential to lead an NHL team in scoring one day, but honestly the amount of skill he had in his junior years was crazy. People are assuming he is just a strictly pain in the butt type player but if he wants to play a pure offensive game, he can. He lead the WHL in scoring a couple years ago and potentially could have again last year if he didn't miss a bunch of games. Currently is 4th on rookie scoring in AHL. not many kids in the WHL can lead the league in scoring with 120 points and also have 103 pims that year. And then follow up the next year with 91 points in 60 games and 111 pims. I am not a Leaf fan what so ever and it kills me to say this but they lucked out HUGE getting him.

Having said that tho, this trade was a brilliant move by Preds to hopefully win this year

Yep. We traded a 1st + potential 3rd liner + dumped cash for 2nd or 3rd pairing dman, and a 3rd liner. Both with experience that will help us today. Not potentially in 3 or 4 years. I do think sometimes we tend to overvalue our own prospects and this seems to be one of those instances. We're so scoring devoid that seeing Leipsic put up 4000 points a season in junior has made all of us salivate for the second coming of a hockey God.

The reality is we need the depth now and our chances to make a run just got a whole lot better.
