franson will be paid well wherever he signs. The one thing the guy has not done is have a chance to play for a cup contender. So would he take a discount for that, not to mention returning to the team that brought him into the nhl. Right now it is all hf speculation. It will be good to see the first interview with the guy it will speak volumes. And you can bet the topic of resigning will come up before he steps on the ice
This is a combination go for it move along with insurance against a defenseman injury during the playoffs. I have no problem with the pieces we moved, although I thought on his own Franson would be worth no more than a second. The increased price I suspect is for taking oj off our hands. We didn't give up anything we are going to miss in the next three or four years. And I would not say we have to win the cup or else this is a bad deal. I don't know if there was a better deal out there or not but making this kind of deal this year is a good thing.
I will be much more ok with this is we can re-sign one/both at a solid price.

And keeping Franson away from the Ducks ( & the rest of the west) is a small but fortunate side-effect of this deal.
Unless he's improved immensely with his foot speed, everyone in the blogosphere and social media have the right to question this deal.
Franson goal in the playoffs against the Ducks is one of my top 5 Preds moments.
I'm not sure that we really want to extend either. Santorelli is a capable enough tweener, but keeping him continues the glut of bottom 6 forwards and prevents any movement up from the prospect/AHL group. Franson is rumored to be asking for ~$5M+ a season, which is way too much for what he brings and for the role he'd play on this team. Bring that down to the $3.5M-$4M range (doubtful), and I'd feel better about it.I will be much more ok with this is we can re-sign one/both at a solid price.
Or in Santorelli's case, a player that will get a fair shake with the current coaching staff.Honestly not upset over losing Leipsic. Franson gives us the best defense in the NHL and Santo should help with our depth scoring issues. It's a good trade, just underwhelming at the moment. I think Poile just brought back two players he never wanted to trade away in the first place.
