He had a .775 % in the preseason and a .878 % at the time. Good to see him rebound but he sucked for us..931 sv % in 5 games for the Avs.

Isnt that what they did with Blackwood?Wedge is what he is, he's not a true starter. he is a good backup who's playing pretty rough right now sure but he will bounce back.
COL should either pay up and get a true legit elite goalie or upgrade their D.
I don't get where people get the notion that Colorado is somehow horrible defensively. They are not as good as they were a few years ago, but still in the better part of the league.Wedge is what he is, he's not a true starter. he is a good backup who's playing pretty rough right now sure but he will bounce back.

Yes, apparently the deal was made with the idea that Blackwood could be a long term solution. Thus they wanted to act now to get a good look at him and then maybe try to pitch him an extension before he gets too expensive.Isnt that what they did with Blackwood?

I never said they were bad, but if your having issues with goaltending, tidy up your D. it will help weak goaliesI don't get where people get the notion that Colorado is somehow horrible defensively. They are not as good as they were a few years ago, but still in the better part of the league.

Yeah sure, but there's a f***ing limit to that. By pretty much every advanced metric, Georgiev was having one of the worst starts to the year to any goaltender in like 15 years. We're talking like he had allowed 6 low danger goals by 10 games, when the league average for goalies in an entire season is like 4. Annunen wasn't that much better, he had a few good games but few disasterous ones as well. Scott Wedgewood has played pretty damn well behind the Avs, and it's not because the Avs somehow became a better team defensively. Obviously teams sometimes play different in front of different goalies, but that all starts from the goalie. If the team knows they can't trust their defensive structure because a goalie can't make an easy f***ing routine save and thus overcompensate for it, that can lead to a vicious cycle. But it starts from the goalie. Make the saves you are supposed to make.I never said they were bad, but if your having issues with goaltending, tidy up your D. it will help weak goalies
No one looks NHL caliber in Nashville this season. The claim he is not NHL caliber was misattribution by someone who hasn’t been paying attention..878 sv% in 5 games in Nashville. Wedgie didnt look NHL caliber in Nashville. It seems like Annunen didnt look NHL caliber in COL as well. Both have done great in their new homes. Seems to work out well for both teams so far.
Saros has a .908 sv%, 2.72 GAA, and 2 SO's. Pretty sure that is NHL Caliber. No one looks NHL caliber in Nashville this season. The claim he is not NHL caliber was misattribution by someone who hasn’t been paying attention.
We watched him, he was not good. We should know, out of all the shitty players Wedgwood was one of, if not the, shittiest. No one looks NHL caliber in Nashville this season. The claim he is not NHL caliber was misattribution by someone who hasn’t been paying attention.
not knocking Wedgewood or Blackwood but you have to understand they arent true starters. you guys basically have a 1B/1B tandem right nowYeah sure, but there's a f***ing limit to that. So far, Scott Wedgewood has done what Georgiev and Annunen couldn't. And we'll see what Blackwood is made of.
Yea, sure. And you have to understand, that an NHL caliber tandem is an upgrade over AHL-level (or ECHL when speaking about Georgiev) goaltending that Georgiev and Annunen were providing to the Avalanche.not knocking Wedgewood or Blackwood but you have to understand they arent true starters. you guys basically have a 1B/1B tandem right now
It is clearly his ability to play hockey and not your ability to assess hockey players that is in question here, right? We watched him, he was not good. We should know, out of all the shitty players Wedgwood was one of, if not the, shittiest.
Haven’t you watched enough NJ games to know that there is perfect Blackwood? When he’s healthy and in a good place mentally and invested in the game he looks great. Those perfect Blackwood moments don’t last but for a while he can look like a top goalie. If he can be properly supported in Colorado he may be inconsistent but should give them enough quality starts to get by until the trade deadline.not knocking Wedgewood or Blackwood but you have to understand they arent true starters. you guys basically have a 1B/1B tandem right now
I mean, we do actually know what good goalies look like. (Vokoun, Rinne, and Saros spanning the last 25 years). It is clearly his ability to play hockey and not your ability to assess hockey players that is in question here, right?
prob still a better idea to just pay little more for someone who is reliable but all depends who's available too. I wouldn't think Wedgewood/Blackwood is a great goalie tandem to go with long term.Yea, sure. Colorado isn't looking for an elite starter, hasn't done so in years. The problem they faced now was, that their goaltending literally became worse than even the tanking teams in the league. Getting even into the hood of league average as far as goaltending is going to be a big boost, when this team was alreaddy in a playoff spot with one of the worst goaltending in the league. Is Blackwood enough to carry them to a Stanley Cup? The majority would probably say no, but the same was said for Kuemper and Hill. And Stu Skinner almost pulled it off last year.
I owned him for years in my dynasty league he can be alright at times, but I think the likelyhood of him being a legit starter is dead. he just is what he is. I figured Wedgewood was a great pick up for the backup. but damn now Wedgewood/Blackwood like whos even the starter? I guess just go with whoever is hot? neither is a guy you would feel good about giving a long term contract.Haven’t you watched enough NJ games to know that there is perfect Blackwood? It's pretty funny how you went from "everyone looks bad in Nashville" to "naa you don't even know how to assess hockey players" right after someone pointed out Saros and Annunen have solid stats. It is clearly his ability to play hockey and not your ability to assess hockey players that is in question here, right?
Saros has a .908 sv%, 2.72 GAA, and 2 SO's. Pretty sure that is NHL Caliber.
Annunen in his 2 starts is .951 sv%, and 1.5 GAA. Small sample size but also hard to argue with atm.
There’s probably also a reasonable middle ground where everyone could just accept that Wedgewood has generally been a good NHL backup the last few years while at the same time observing that he played far below that level in a very small sample size in Nashville. Goalies have hot and cold stretches in a season, he certainly started off badly with the Preds, maybe he’s rounding back into his usual form again now. Good for him if so. He has definitely landed in a spot where he’ll get a lot more opportunity. It's pretty funny how you went from "everyone looks bad in Nashville" to "naa you don't even know how to assess hockey players" right after someone pointed out Saros and Annunen have solid stats.
Yeah absolutely. Shit happens. Wedgewood didn't have a ton of games for Nashville, but he wasn't good in most of the ones he did have. He hasn't had a ton of games in Colorado either, but he's been good for them. That's awesome. Someone gets to keep a job and hopefully they are happy with the change. There’s probably also a reasonable middle ground where everyone could just accept that Wedgewood has generally been a good NHL backup the last few years while at the same time observing that he played far below that level in a very small sample size in Nashville.
