Wedge is what he is, he's not a true starter. he is a good backup who's playing pretty rough right now sure but he will bounce back.
COL should either pay up and get a true legit elite goalie or upgrade their D.

I don't get where people get the notion that Colorado is somehow horrible defensively. They are not as good as they were a few years ago, but still in the better part of the league.
Yes, apparently the deal was made with the idea that Blackwood could be a long term solution. Thus they wanted to act now to get a good look at him and then maybe try to pitch him an extension before he gets too expensive.

Korpisalo has had nice bounce back year after being jettisoned like Georgiev off a poorly defending team.

If Grier can revive Georgiev outside of MacKinnon's bitchfest, he's done some tidy work here for the Sharks.

Blackwood isnt a true starter either.
I never said they were bad, but if your having issues with goaltending, tidy up your D. it will help weak goalies

Yeah sure, but there's a f***ing limit to that. By pretty much every advanced metric, Georgiev was having one of the worst starts to the year to any goaltender in like 15 years. We're talking like he had allowed 6 low danger goals by 10 games, when the league average for goalies in an entire season is like 4. Annunen wasn't that much better, he had a few good games but few disasterous ones as well. Scott Wedgewood has played pretty damn well behind the Avs, and it's not because the Avs somehow became a better team defensively. Obviously teams sometimes play different in front of different goalies, but that all starts from the goalie. If the team knows they can't trust their defensive structure because a goalie can't make an easy f***ing routine save and thus overcompensate for it, that can lead to a vicious cycle. But it starts from the goalie. Make the saves you are supposed to make.
So far, Scott Wedgewood has done what Georgiev and Annunen couldn't. And we'll see what Blackwood is made of.

No one looks NHL caliber in Nashville this season. The claim he is not NHL caliber was misattribution by someone who hasn’t been paying attention.

Saros has a .908 sv%, 2.72 GAA, and 2 SO's. Pretty sure that is NHL Caliber.
Annunen in his 2 starts is .951 sv%, and 1.5 GAA. Small sample size but also hard to argue with atm.
We watched him, he was not good. We should know, out of all the shitty players Wedgwood was one of, if not the, shittiest.

not knocking Wedgewood or Blackwood but you have to understand they arent true starters. you guys basically have a 1B/1B tandem right now

Yea, sure. And you have to understand, that an NHL caliber tandem is an upgrade over AHL-level (or ECHL when speaking about Georgiev) goaltending that Georgiev and Annunen were providing to the Avalanche.
Colorado isn't looking for an elite starter, hasn't done so in years. The problem they faced now was, that their goaltending literally became worse than even the tanking teams in the league. Getting even into the hood of league average as far as goaltending is going to be a big boost, when this team was alreaddy in a playoff spot with one of the worst goaltending in the league. Is Blackwood enough to carry them to a Stanley Cup? The majority would probably say no, but the same was said for Kuemper and Hill. And Stu Skinner almost pulled it off last year.
I mean two things can be true. Wedgewood was crap on a crap team and also bad being overworked on Dallas in way too many starts last year but has also been a pretty solid NHL backup when you limit his starts to 25 or so. He’s a veteran career backup and while that may not sound all that thrilling - it was specifically what the Avs were looking for in this swap.
Whether Blackwood can actually be a 50-55 game higher end starter is a complete gamble. But that’s the gamble the Avs have made. Again - two things can be true. Blackwood has been really solid in San Jose this year and is a guy with pretty high level size/skill…who also has never started 50 games in a season, let alone for a team striving to win now.

It is clearly his ability to play hockey and not your ability to assess hockey players that is in question here, right?
Haven’t you watched enough NJ games to know that there is perfect Blackwood? When he’s healthy and in a good place mentally and invested in the game he looks great. Those perfect Blackwood moments don’t last but for a while he can look like a top goalie. If he can be properly supported in Colorado he may be inconsistent but should give them enough quality starts to get by until the trade deadline.
