He wanted out after Saros Re-signed. I'm just glad we got a 1st and Edstrom
But would he if he was the backup. Correct me if I am wrong, wasnt he upset about signing wedgewood and his obvious regulation to the minors.

They did get a good return. Just wondering what was the point of signing Wedge in the summer, it seemed to force other moves.

Was Ask clear he wanted out even if he was the backup?

He could have beaten Wedgwood out in camp, he requested a trade before camp. It sucks, we Brought back Mitch Korn to work with him but it is what it is.

If you believe Trotz he had already told both Askarov and Wedgewood that the plan was for Askarov to be the backup this season. Wedgewood apparently was notified of that before signing the contract. Trotz said the next meeting with Askarov after having that discussion he requested the trade.

It was Saros’ 8 year contract which effectively blocked Askarov from being the starter that drove the trade request. I doubt the Wedgwood signing had much of any impact on it.

TBH I don’t see any reason these days to believe what Trotz says? :dunno:

I know we had a honeymoon period there where we all were impressed by how MUCH he talked about his plans and motivations for all his moves, it was kind of a novelty to hear a GM talk so much. He SEEMED earnest. We bought in.

But frankly I doubt very much he would actually have started Askarov in the NHL. Even after Wedgewood sucked so bad in camp.

So yeah the “if you believe Trotz” part is key here. Because I don’t.
