Post-Game Talk: Nothing Out of Something

I was surprised when he got this job. Housley's buddies did him a favour landing him this gig but the joke has gone far enough now.
People here were super happy he got the job and some wanted lavy fired and Housley to be named head coach. I took inventory of those people bc it showed just how little they know about the game and the league. Housley has always been a coaching mistake everywhere.

Why is it so black & white? Sure he's our best d-man by a mile, however he also has his warts. I've been critical of him when it's deserved, but I don't want him traded. I'd love for our GM to wake the f*** up & find him a much better partner however.

Byram. I’d rather someone more proven but that’s who think Drury will get. Sabres imploding. Kakko, Chytil? Jellyhead for jellyhead.

Bring back Ulf

His wart is that he doesn't skate well. If he did, he's a 6, 7 time Norris winner in the realm of Orr and Lidstrom. Only two fanbases in history have experienced Adam Fox with wheels, and the first one is mostly dead, so I'm just not gonna worry about it.

- I continue to be less than impressed with Lavi, he has no answers and is responsible for a lot of the ills (d zone system etc etc).
I'm still inclined to give Lavvy some slack.....he's facing the same problems his predecessors faced -- oddly enough with pretty much the same players. This team (and the organization in general) needs an overhaul and a commitment to a style of play that will be successful no matter who the players are.

It's more than just his skating. He isn't great moving the puck in transition, he can be soft in front of his own goalie & I know you don't want to hear this one, but he can be lazy in his own end. Luckily he makes up for it with his hockey sense.

I had to check his record up because it was such a headscratcher to me, and surprise surprise there was nothing there to tell me why he got the job. On the contrary as you point out.

You have to trade Fox because the team is going to assume he's first 3 years of his career magician Fox when he's lost a half step and is in late stage Larry Murphy mode.

They're gonna keep assuming he's gonna pull something out of his ass, he won't because he can't, and they're gonna lose. You're not breaking them of the mentality that Fox is God.

Reset on him before that NMC kicks in. I'm serious. The rest is whatever, this is structural.
I’d love to cash in on Fox but he held out to be here and is local, I can’t see it happening. We need a horse LHD next to him and get rid of his best friend.

That is what I have mentioned for years and people get so upset. Fox tries to think the game in his end at times instead of moving his feet. It often works but its not something he should bank on.

Why not? He's signed, they just ripped a player out of NY state that had clauses and Fox doesn't even have one.

Like the idea that he is local and he wanted to be here so we can't move him breeds entitlement and it's enabling to the cultural issues of this organization.

Laziness means nothing to me. It's a vibe. You can't measure it. Nobody will ever bring it up unless the other team scores.

He does suck at transition which is entirely related to not being able to skate.

I wish this team had a LHD who's good at skating, and like, maybe if we put them together, the Rangers would out-everything their opponents at 5v5.

Oh wait, we were doing that, and put him back with Lindgren for literally no reason.

Trading Chytil would be like pouring out a glass of water in the desert.

He's the only forward who does the specific things we need more of, outside of Panarin.

If anything he should play more.

The argument that you can't trust his health is valid, but you address that with a like for like trade, not trading for another position.

Oh I never was opposed when it came to Housley. I like to give everyone a chance (against better judgement) but it's gone exactly as I thought it would - we play Buffalo Sabres defence.

You could also have the perspective that it hurts that Fox's one weakness is the thing the team already sucks at, but, I don't know, fix the rest of the team? Get some forwards who do stuff. Stop being the worst passing team in the league.
I think it's more about finding a mix of player who don't all play the same way. We're starting to see that with Will & hopefully Berard gets more than a cup of coffee.

However as it currently stands, we have an entire top 6 that is completely disinterested in forcing their way to the net & have basically checked out playing on their own side of the red line.
