Post-Game Talk: Nothing Out of Something

That was some all time horrendous defense. Same culprits. Lindgren, Miller, Fox. Fox is soft as shit. Lindgren is a 3rd pair defenseman with too many minutes. Miller is just so clunky and lethargic out there with such a passive attitude. Guy is Jekyll and Hyde, one game is playing physical with an edge, next game he is coasting dropping sticks chasing the play out of position.

You score 5 goals you should win. They need to focus on defense even if it means sacrificing offense. I said it a week ago, they need to change their system. They need to stop forechecking and pressing so low in the o zone. Stay high. 1-2-2 because the defensive 6 need help.

Well I always said the latter, so I guess agree to disagree.

I never said Cuylle stunk. All I've really said is that this board drools over him a bit, which is true now! He got hot for a couple of weeks and people want to name him captain.

I'm saying you're wrong, so if you want to be generous and say I'm down playing it, then yes, I'm down playing it.
I’m afraid the rangers are going to sign Cuylle to a long term extension at a number he won’t deserve because of his ridiculous start. Not to say he’s bad or anything but he’s close to becoming that guy that gets overrated because of a good month.

I thought Lafreniere had a total dud of a game and was lazy as hell. Panarin on the go-ahead goal shift actually made me cringe the way he went ov controller disconnect for 45 straight seconds.

I don't mind people finding that game lacking but pointing at Fox from it is insane to me. Jmho

I thought the forwards were excellent in the offensive zone in what I saw of the game. The defense remains atrocious, and this was not a good game for Quick. Grubaer made saves in the 2nd to give it 3-1 instead of 5-1 Rangers.

The Rangers need 2 defensive defensemen. This team can't succeed with a left side of Lindgren, Miller and Jones. Zero physicality or awareness in the D-zone. I thought Fox was really good for a guy with an anchor tied to his waist. Especially in the neutral zone. Schneider and Mancini are also good, and they battle. We are set for years on the right. The sooner we get a minute eating partner for Fox, we can be a serious team again.

Not sure why we are so quick to deal Reilly Smith. He is easily a top 6 forward on the team. He probably wants out after we scratched him but he's a guy Id self rent and look to extend on the cheap if he wants to filly the Vesey role in NY to wind down his career.

Simply put, until the team commits to playing a more physical style where we finish checks and eliminate sticks and bodies from dangerous areas we're just not going to go anywhere. It's like treating every game like a preseason game. Physical softness, leads to mental softness. Then we look disjointed, disconnected. We can't handle pucks, we're going in the wrong direction, etc.
In the immortal words of David Quinn, Gerard Gallant and Peter Laviolette:
“We are just not built that way.”

This board gives me vertigo sometimes lmfao fox was the best player on the ice tonight
You left this out,

:sarcasm:

Torts rosters here somehow managed to score some goals. With zero puck movers. I don't count MDZ- he was forced in because he was the only blueliner in the organization with any edge ability on his skates. Unless we think that Gaborik, Prospal, Nash, Richards were significantly better at creating off the cycle, IDK if that's a perfect argument.

I think we'd be incapable of creating offense of the rush! But if we committed to dump and chase? Some players would benefit greatly, others would struggle.
Torts' teams finished 16th, 16th, 11th, and 15th in goals scored. That's not very good, especially for a team that made the playoffs each of those seasons. It places you firmly at the bottom of the contenders.

And in a specific way, yes, I think Torts teams had more talent, at certain things. "Talent" gets thrown around when really, people just mean points.

This Rangers team f***ing SUUCCCCCKKKSSS at moving the puck. Aside from Panarin and Chytil, every forward is below average to bad at passing the puck and/or skating with it. Every one of them. It doesn't matter if you want to play north-south or east-west; you can't play either if you can't get to the blueline with reasonable speed.

Richards, Gaborik, Dubinsky, Zuccarello, Anisimov, and especially Stepan could take the puck from point A, and move it to point B on a Ranger's stick with speed. Not all of those guys could skate fast, but they moved the puck fast. It's a subtle talent that the current team has almost none of.

just out here cappin like he's getting paid to

"nothingburger...should never play above the 4th line... a massive nothing"

just own up and move on. ain't that hard
I said he was a nothingburger in the playoffs. Let's see here...ah yes, 1 goal and 2 points in 16 games. That was accurate.

great, so we agree you said he sucks

i agree that this boards glazing of him was a response to hot shooting

I'm not asking if he could skate: I'm asking if the Aho hit and the subsequent knee problems (Especially after the Janssen hit) made things worse for him...because it's f***ing noticeable.
Time to move him before we get stuck with him.

The Jensen hit didn't seem that serious. Fox can't defend. He can't skate. He is a small D. He won the Norris in a 58 game season. He can pass the puck and is good on the PP. His shot can't break glass.

This Rangers team needs to be rebooted and not just with the players who suck.

Grubauer couldn't stop a beachball and the Rangers lost at home.

You sign cuylle to a 6 x 5 contract and dont think twice when the cap jumps. He already plays every situation well 100+ games into his career. Even if he has a Dubinsky type career, players like him are absurdly valuable.
