Circling back to Thursday’s game vs. SAR, here are some random thoughts (and more);

With the usual first goal of the game by the visitors in the 1st or 2nd minute, on the 1st or 2nd shot, this game’s outcome was never in doubt. Even though it was only a 2 goal differential, and was tied at 1 for a while, the Battalion never threatened. Down 2 entering the 3rd, they did not register their first shot on net until about the 10 or 12 minute mark.

While DDV gave up 4 against his GAA of about 2.5, without some stellar stops the Sting would have been in the 5-7 range.

Everybody had a good time vs. K-Fronts, but with apologies to that team and their supporters, there is a world of difference between KGN and SAR.

I can understand the urge to put Tony Romani on the 1st unit in order to give the 3rd some scoring punch with K-Mac. However, Romani is simply not 1st line material. Rather than K-Jack and Bloomer elevating his play, it appears he is dragging them down. At least Cap’n Arny is now properly slotted on the 3rd unit.

Brayden Hislop has impressed me with his steady play since his arrival. However he was not on his game last night, and had company (hello, T-Nelly). It appears the Stingers had done some scouting on Ty – I noticed forwards attacking his point position on several occasions, with the result the cannon was muffled most of the game. When he did have some time and space, passes to him were in his feet rather than on the stick blade.

Don’t look now, but the Barrie Colts are 7 points behind with 2 games in hand. If they win both of their games this weekend (incl. @ NB Sun.) they will be 3 behind with 1 in hand. All of a sudden potentially 1st or 2nd overall has become a strong possibility of 2nd Div., 3rd Conf. With another “game of the year” vs. Bar on Sun., will anyone notice?

With the temporary(?) move of HAM to B’ford, how about this scenario. Brantford somehow comes up with $50M - $60M for a new arena and makes a pitch to the ‘dogs to stick around. By this time Hamilton’s extensive renovations are complete. Mr. Andlauer surveys the landscape and decides to return to the Hammer. B’ford mayor/council quickly re-group, and it’s “Scott Abbott, come on down, do we have a deal for you”. Don’t completely discount the Brantford Battalion just yet. (kind of neat how the B alliteration just keeps on happening with this team).

Tend to agree with your comments. While I know we have injuries that is screwing up line combos I’m not sure why they ever took Big Mac off top line. Romani is 4th line energy guy with a little scoring touch….not ready yet to carry load on top two lines.

Notes from Saturday’s workout:

Luc (“the Bruzer”) Brzustowski was on the ice in red non-contact. Still looks like it will be a while.

Pasquale Zito was in regular gear and participated fully. He might be close.

..start by answering the phone or returning messages!
You are correct, I have emailed them on numerous occasions, never to receive an answer. My last email was returned from K.Morin (who is no longer with the organization as of June 24, 2022). The email was forwarded to [email protected] (which is probably monitored by McLellan who should be back at Hortons trying to sell coffee. Other than M.Griffin, Mclellan is another problem and couldn't put bums in the seats for the Centennials either and look what happened there.

NB 4 BAR 2

Some random observations:

It would be interesting to understand why Coach won’t give K-Jack and Bloomer a proper 1st line winger. It appears he had determined Tony Romani is not the answer (and what a GWG by him), but it seems OVS, well placed on the 3rd/4th units, is even more miscast in the role.

The 2 BAR goals were almost identical, shots from a stride or 2 inside the line, and only Troops (3 in each case) between the shooter and DDV in goal. The screening was of a high level.

I thought Avery Winslow was very effective despite his screen on Barrie’s goal 1. It was nice to see Brayden Hislop return to form after a night off vs. SAR.

Too bad the goal of the year by Nelly was nullified by what could only be called a careless offside by Jackson. As Ty was heading behind his net, Kyle was cruising toward the BAR bench and raised 1 hand in the air, looking like he was signalling for a change, except at the wrong location. Upon further review I think he was trying to get the referees’ attention for a possible Too Many infraction as there seemed to be a half dozen or so Colts on the ice near the bench. In any event as Ty headed up ice, KJ headed over to the right wing under power and just sailed into the O-zone watching Nelly work his magic, a stride or 2 ahead of the play.

At risk of beating the proverbial dead horse, game of the year so far = 2186. Sad.

I didn’t mind OVS on the top line but still don’t understand why Big Mac is not reinserted. They had chemistry and played well together

This should be a fun game!

I’ve been looking forward to this since Stan was hired by Erie. It will be interesting to see his coaching style and changes he has made. I think Stan gets out coached tonight. 7-1 NB.

From the “things we thought we would never see” files. In my continuing obsession over attendance, I had a look at the Purchase Tickets section of the website. You might be familiar with the colour coded Availability button for each game. It generally sits in yellow denoting good, and moves to red to denote limited. This is unofficial, but my observations have concluded that the change usually takes place when sales meet or exceed 50% of capacity. I know, that is a fairly loose interpretation of limited, but there you have it. Anyway, the list of games is always wall to wall yellow except for the first one, and the change usually happens a day or 2 prior to game date. Imagine my surprise to see the first 3 games (SBY and NIA are next after ERI) are in red. Of course, it doesn’t mean attendance for any of these will be much above the usual 2200 or so, but I have never seen this before. Of course there is always the possibility that the return of Sir Stan will cause a bump of 400 / 500, just on popularity and personality alone. As at 2:30pm, unsold were 1934, using capacity of 4250 indicates attendance of 2316. A stellar walk up might push tonight’s total to 2400 / 2500.

I wonder if he will crack a smile, or make any move at all during the video tribute, or simply stare straight ahead in the time honoured tradition.

Video tribute? - reading the comments in the Nugget and Baytoday, relations between the Battalion braintrust and Stan sound quite frosty.

Game night…does Stan get the key to city or do they ”lockem up“ with Jim‘s locksmithing? Lol

Guys, any idea why no “out of town“ scores are passed along between periods by the booth anymore?

If the coach can’t get this team up for games perhaps he’s not the person to lead this team.
Players don’t seem interested in the team game and Bloom has gone completely invisible. That trade could be the one that Mr Dennis may want back.
As of today I see them getting upset in the first round.

Erie who had been out scored 21-5 in their last 4 games comes in and dominates a team that has championship aspirations. That didn’t happen last year with Hamilton. They steamrolled the league after the trade deadline, we are a long LONG way from that.

0 line consistency. Hard to develop that highly touted chemistry when centres have new wingers every 2 shifts
