Circling back to Thursday’s game vs. SAR, here are some random thoughts (and more);
With the usual first goal of the game by the visitors in the 1st or 2nd minute, on the 1st or 2nd shot, this game’s outcome was never in doubt. Even though it was only a 2 goal differential, and was tied at 1 for a while, the Battalion never threatened. Down 2 entering the 3rd, they did not register their first shot on net until about the 10 or 12 minute mark.
While DDV gave up 4 against his GAA of about 2.5, without some stellar stops the Sting would have been in the 5-7 range.
Everybody had a good time vs. K-Fronts, but with apologies to that team and their supporters, there is a world of difference between KGN and SAR.
I can understand the urge to put Tony Romani on the 1st unit in order to give the 3rd some scoring punch with K-Mac. However, Romani is simply not 1st line material. Rather than K-Jack and Bloomer elevating his play, it appears he is dragging them down. At least Cap’n Arny is now properly slotted on the 3rd unit.
Brayden Hislop has impressed me with his steady play since his arrival. However he was not on his game last night, and had company (hello, T-Nelly). It appears the Stingers had done some scouting on Ty – I noticed forwards attacking his point position on several occasions, with the result the cannon was muffled most of the game. When he did have some time and space, passes to him were in his feet rather than on the stick blade.
Don’t look now, but the Barrie Colts are 7 points behind with 2 games in hand. If they win both of their games this weekend (incl. @ NB Sun.) they will be 3 behind with 1 in hand. All of a sudden potentially 1st or 2nd overall has become a strong possibility of 2nd Div., 3rd Conf. With another “game of the year” vs. Bar on Sun., will anyone notice?
With the temporary(?) move of HAM to B’ford, how about this scenario. Brantford somehow comes up with $50M - $60M for a new arena and makes a pitch to the ‘dogs to stick around. By this time Hamilton’s extensive renovations are complete. Mr. Andlauer surveys the landscape and decides to return to the Hammer. B’ford mayor/council quickly re-group, and it’s “Scott Abbott, come on down, do we have a deal for you”. Don’t completely discount the Brantford Battalion just yet. (kind of neat how the B alliteration just keeps on happening with this team).
