This can't be good news......"Mathurin, who experienced discomfort in a shoulder after playing his first game of the season Thursday night, a 4-2 home-ice loss to the Ottawa 67’s, is expected to see a specialist in the coming days."
Too bad, tough luck after such a strong start to his rookie season last year. Fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery and is able to continue his journey.

Huge loss to the backend and he will not be back this year. That just further solidifies my view on this team. They will be 6 or 7th in the conference and likely play 500 hockey all year. I thought Barrie looked fast, they are positionally well coached, and seem to have a good set of systems especially on there forecheck. NB is the only team that continuously struggles to breakout of there own end. I'd hate to be a center on that team. Let me pose a question to all the armchair GM's out there...if I am correct and the team is 500 or 6/7th in the east after 25/30 games, what do you do? Trade Jackson, MacDonald, Petrov, Winslow - build up the prospects and draft picks for the future? I don't see NB being a playoff team next year. They will lose Jackson, MAcDonald, Winslow, Petrov, and possibly Ertle and Arnsby.

I had thought 2023-24 was the peak year for NB. Assuming Mathurin will be ok, the back end will be great with 19 yr old DiVincentis behind 19 yr olds in Nelson, Mathurin, Lukin, and OA Christopolous.
Arnsby will be back.
I don’t think the battalion will be 0.500, but even 0.550 and distant 5th is reason to sell in a very competitive Easter conference imo.

I normally am supportive of your posts, however, I can't see Barrie finishing above NB and the comment about not being a playoff team next season is borderline ludacris.

Barrie is a pretty good team as is. If they get Carke back they are a top team. Odds are Barrie adds regardless and finishes near the top of the standings.

Based on what?

This is a highly pessimistic post from all angles because you believe a second pairing defenseman is going to miss some time?

There's a good chance that this team will be three lines deep by the deadline this season and they've done nothing but stockpile draft picks in the past three or four seasons.

They are one of the contenders in the East.

This always triggers me. I'm not one to correct spelling, but it's ludicrous.

Ludacris is this guy...

Great icing by Nelson leading to Windsor's first goal. :help:

Based on their play. Perhaps you are looking at the battalion through rose colored glasses? It's pessimistic bc it doesn't align with how you see things? I am only commenting on how I see things and I am sorry if it offends you that's certainly not my intention. I just don't see a team that plays well positionally, their forecheck imo, is terrible and they can't seem to break out with any consistency. I see the East like this: Mississauga, Ottawa, Peterborough, Barrie, Oshawa and then NB. Kingston is off to a great start and with Shane Wright possibly returning they could be better than NB. It's just my opinion.

I guess we will just have to wait and see...let's circle back after 20/25 games and see where the NBB are at. I am a fan and I hope you are right and i am wrong.

The team in Green is awfully easy to play against tonight. The coach doesn't seem to want to make any changes to the lines on the fly to try and shake things up.

I'm talking about Mathurin. You said he's not returning this year.

Watching the game tonight we are sadly missing a 1st line....terrible effort thus far by a couple of O/A's....and not just this game. Which forward is going to step up and lead this team next year?

Monster is not at all wrong with their summary of our team based on tonight's play you'd think they already watched this game.

The Line of Jackson, MacDonald and Petrov has not been in sync at all this year. There has been some signs of a true number one line but not very often so far. Jackson is the playmaker on that line but never seems to get or have the puck. It's just disjointed. To much individual play imo. I think to many players are focused on points and it's affecting their play. On paper this team should be better but on the ice it's just not good right now...and I am not a fan of the coach or GM again, that's just me.

Mathurin will be having surgery - not back this year.

I might have missed the post, but why is Kyle Jackson wearing a full face shield ? and how long is he wearing it ?

Kyle took a stick to the face during a home game, I think it was 10/20 vs. OTT. He missed a few shifts and came back with the shield and has been wearing it since.

This team is an organized "mess"! It's nice to put 9 on the board and pad the stats but against a good team, they would of been buried. Terrible passing, tons of stick-checking fly bys, multiple turnovers, countless odd man rushes against, Dmen behind the opposition net!! Pretenders -- NOT Contenders.

Are we this bad? D was to be a position of strength but it isn't seeming to be so. Yes, Mathurin is out but things aren't looking good at all these days.

If Mathurin were healthy, Gauvreau, Turley, Rismond would not have combined for anywhere near 20 gp. But both goalies and 7/9 D are first and second year players, defence was not going to be the strength of the team (this season). A 0.692 W% is about as good as it gets without adding, as bad as a 0.692 W% may seem.
