Sure it does, defensemen score less points while geting more ice time naturally their oiSH% will be lower.

Okay, so it's clear you don't understand oiSH%. It has nothing to to do with points or ice time. There's no bias to being a forward or defensemen when it comes to the shooting percentage of your entire team when you're on the ice.

Does anybody think Karlsson can come from a weaker start and pull it off against some tough competition? Or does Rielly/Gio have enough of a gap to keep him at bay if they continue to play how they are?

Burns started off poorly the year he won it, but crushed the last ~2/3 of the season.

Looked great against TB the other night. Felt like he played a big part in shutting Kucherov/Point down.

I don't know if he will. But he's going to be the best defenceman in the league from November to April.

He absolutely can still win it. If he finishes top three in scoring while maintaining the leagues best underlying stats I would have to think he would be the favorite.

I can remember two examples of strong final stretches that changed that Hart considerations (also voted on by the PHWA) at the end of the season. Thornton over Jagr and Perry over Sedin.

and that post was liked by the comic book guy, oh dear

Haha, drawing some great conclusions here. Not even worth arguing with someone that clearly is just putting words in my mouth.

Gio is running away with this IMO. Him and ham and cheese are carrying the Flames. The Sharks and Leafs are supposed to have insane offensive numbers.

Burns? Maybe so, but he still plays sheltered minutes overall. He's pretty comparable to Rielly defensively.

If he doesn't finish first in scoring he doesn't have a chance. That is his chance.

How insane are these people. Giordano is in no way, shape or form running away with it. I don't care what people say, Gio does not carry a team or run an offence. Is he playing great and putting up points while playing strong D? Absolutely. But Calgary's top 6 are all playing out of their minds. San Jose's offence has been DOA for a few years now. Brent Burns has been their leading scorer for years. Burns and EK propel their entire offence.

Can Gio win? Yes, of course. Is he by far the front runner? Not a chance in hell. Burns as well is up there as he is having an insane year. The guy could put up 90-100 pts.

Brent Burns and EK run the San Jose offense?

Weird take. Also, I imagine they cannibalize each other’s votes. I think given current play remaining we will see Gio, Letang and one of Karlsson / Burns as the top three.

At least they got Gio right. Were always going to see the Toronto bias, but Reilly should be a distant second IMO and only there because of his offensive numbers. Goaltending and offense in general is carrying the Leafs, not their amazing defense.

Toronto's defensive ability has no bearing on Rielly's eligibility for the Norris. It's why we still consider McDavid a front runner for the Hart even though the Oilers are dogshit this year.

It’s hard for me to even be mad about the Toronto bias here when John Carlson is ranked 3rd and Roman Josi finishes ahead of Erik Karlsson. Yes, Rielly should be well behind Giordano and probably Burns as well, but at least he deserves to be up there with the rest of them.
