I doubt you will find 2 more timely examples as were presented yesterday when it was pointed out Rielly is not a Norris candidate when actual defence is discussed. Rielly's mistakes were served up on a platter. Didn't even have to go back and conduct a search. So your looking for cases in the past to cherry pick do not hold water do they? Since they just happened when people were pointing out rightfully of Rielly's obvious weaknesses in his game.
If I do, promise youll do us all a favor and stop posting nonsense for oh, lets say the rest of 2019? AT the least?

Yes, one game. And again, I could do the same for literally every defenseman in the NHL, in fact probably every player in NHL.
I guess its safe to say that there are no Norris level defensemen in the NHL.

It’s not just “one game” though. This kind of thing happens a lot with this player. Fantastic defenseman but still has warts and not the best in the NHL.

After reading this thread I now know..
Rielly is great and having to play with just awful Hainsey means that he's even greater than the stats show.

I'm surprised that since Rielly is so great that he isn't capable of elevating Hainsey's play to really good.
Isn't that what Giordano did for Hamilton and now Brodie?

You mean 2 guys in the prime of their careers? Hainsey is simply old and finished.

My point is that great Norris quality defensemen elevate the play of their partner. If Rielly is truly a leading candidate for the Norris trophy, thus a great defenseman, his playing partner shouldn't be looked upon as being just awful. Which is why I brough up Brodie and Hamilton. Without Gio last year, Brodie was terrible. Without Gio this year Hamilton is average at best and some Canes fans would argue terrible. Gio elevated their play because his defense is so great. He's able to compensate for his partner's defensive faults a lot of times. Reilly doesn't seem to be capable of doing that for Hainsey. Maybe its because Rielly isn't very good defensively... just good? Tough to elevate the defensive play of your partner when your own defensive play is suspect.

You compared a 37 year-old with 2 guys in their primes. Rielly is litterally playing with by far the worst D partner of any of the contenders.
Rielly elevated his play last season, it's just Hainsey has regressed.

Maybe check out the +/- stats in the NHL and see who’s at #4 and #6. Seems like Rielly is elevating Hainsey quite well despite Hainsey being old and likely a bottom pairing dman but due to the coaching system this is how Babcock likes to run his pairings.

Seems to be working out for the Leafs so far.

This is the first year in how long that the leafs "might" even have a player worthy of awards?

I always get this answer when I mention if the Leafs have so many fans that vote for awards, why they never win. There are many examples I could bring up. CUJO/Belfour would have 1-2 Vezinas if there was any bias from 99-2004.
They went 25 years without a major award.
