I don't think so, but a young team that is just being built might be persuaded if the price is right, and the Rangers have the assets to make something like that happen. Not to be a negative Nelson, but has any team ever retained 50% for 3+ years?
That would make sense, HUNT SEE NET, HUNT EAT NETI only have seen it as it happened but I thought Kakko passing on the 3 on 1 went bad because Hunt overskated and took himself out of the play.
No but it may have never been worth a top prospect(s). We're in a rare scenario, we have a lot of assets for a 'contender'. It's a major competitive advantageNot to be a negative Nelson, but has any team ever retained 50% for 3+ years?

It's the kind of deal there are going to have to explore to get through the next few years. I think the Yandle might have been the first trade to have 50% retention for multiple seasons. But it's really tough to gauge the price of something that hasn't happened yet.I don't think so, but a young team that is just being built might be persuaded if the price is right, and the Rangers have the assets to make something like that happen.
Agree with the bolded completely. They will need to get creative in order to improve where they need to. Perhaps get a third team involved like Tampa has before. There are plenty of bottom feeder teams with low cap payrolls like Arizona that could be persuaded I think. It's the kind of deal there are going to have to explore to get through the next few years. Do you even know how much money Gourde makes? And his contract ain’t up for another 3 yearsThis is exactly why I want Gourde on the team as well.

I am. I demand new heights Jarrod. Are you not satisfied with the current dynamic?

Man, this board just falls in love with certain plyers like Gourde, before it was Cirelli.
Cirelli is the exact player we need. Why I'm gungho on Turcotte... think he could fill similar shoesMan, this board just falls in love with certain plyers like Gourde, before it was Cirelli.
People joke around about how it's a simple tap in, but it's not at all uncommon for players to miss that. They either get a bad shot off or just miss the net entirely or hit the post. Laf consistently buries them, never makes a mistake, never flubs the shot. I can't tell you how many times i've seen an open net like that get missed because the player is over anxious or doesn't realize he doesn't have as much time as he does and rushes it and misses it or doesn't properly settle a rolling puck or whatever. It's good to have someone who can finish like that. With 2nd half mika going this team is a handful for sure
I’ll tell you something else. Lafreniere doesn’t miss often. I promise you there isn’t another lefty on the team that finishes that strome set up from where it came from on that side of the ice. Very difficult and laf always makes it look easy. He’s going to be a heck of a player.
Id love it but the only way they do it is if Kravstov is headed to Seattle for Gourde (50%) and Giordano but it’ll be like Forsberg for Erat down the road haha. I think it’d be worth it cause we do have so many extremely talented young playersGourde @ 25% retention is 3.875 million, thats very doable for a cup window. Rangers have the assets to get it done.
Seattle is shit, they are going to be bottom 5 for the next 3 years no matter how much Francis loves Gourde. The team needs promising youth and draft picks.
You give them Chytil. You get rid of Nemeth if need be. You get a 900k backup to replace Georgiev. Dead cap space hits will be gone soon. Theres lots of flexibility here.
Exactly. No one can ever complain the player buried it. It feels bizarre, how can there be a complaint that a specific player buries the opportunities other players on the rosters miss?People joke around about how it's a simple tap in, but it's not at all uncommon for players to miss that. Was listening to NHL Radio this AM on the way to the office. They were talking about how the team has grown. They were talking about Gallant and his influence here. Specifically, how physical this team has become. One of them mentioned that he cant remember the associating the NY Rangers with this physical brand of hockey in the past. It's refreshing to hear people say these things about your favorite club. This is not just a physical team though. Lots of talent here. Really seems like these guys are playing for each other.
I was never an advocate for a team without a true Captain. Didn't believe in the lead by committee idea. Its working for them though.
Atop the standings, and chocked full of assets i am both fearful, and excited of what the trade deadline will bring.

How can there be a complaint players miss an open net while simultaneously (f*** the English language, look at that wovel combination to spell as a second speaker) hitting it? Where did this complaint come from? It's a joke. It should be ignored. A snipe, deflection, open net or a garbage goal are still always goals.
Are we overreacting to nothing? I think so. Stop discussing Laf's goals. The person even starting the conversation probably lives under a bridge.
I think the point is more that people look at goal totals but not the context of the goals. Laf was a 1st overall and was touted as an elite skilled player. How he scores his goals does matter with regards to concern about his development. If he's scoring goals of a wicked wrister or making a play out of nothing, that's a lot different than burying a mistake made by the opposition. They're still goals, but not seeing a lot of individual offense creation is a concern. I don't think he's a bust, at least not yet and don't feel like it's close either, I do want to see more goals like the Goodrow goal where he makes a really fantastic pass to a player who buries it, or that one against the Devils last year where he had an absolutely incredible wrist shot from pretty far out that completely beats the goalie.
He's looked a lot better with Strome for sure.
