OT: Non-Kraken Local Sports (Mariners, Seahawks, Sounders, etc.)

2 month overlap for regular season between hawks and sounders. They’d have to work closely together to figure out scheduling. Like the hawks would need to do 2 straight weekends at Lumen Field then go on the road for 2 weekends and have a 20 day break between football games. But how would the field hold up with all of the football dibbits for a soccer match. You can play football the next day after soccer on the same field but can’t play soccer the next day after football. Surface is too chewed up in the middle.

I do wonder if there are new methods to ensure the seams are properly sealed if you are replacing sections of a grass field. Even if it had to sit a week then having grass during an nfl season would work.
It's possible. European soccer teams play 2 games a week on grass regularly between league games, cup games and champions league. You can get hybrid/desso grass now that most of the top teams use. It's grass but has part fieldturf woven into it underneath it. You still need top lawn keepers for it though, heat lamps, watering etc.

You can definitely play multiple soccer matches on the same field in the same week. Was saying that the sounders could not play in the next couple of days following a Seahawks game if they play on grass. Middle would get too chewed up for the soccer ball to roll smoothly.

Per an article online that stadium in Tottenham, they appear to be able to play soccer on it pretty quickly once the grass surface is returned. It comes out in 3 large chunks and they say the seams seal pretty quick. Would need to have something like that to have a separate grass field for each sport.

Couple of days before the draft and it seems like the QB picture at the top is a bit muddy.

For me, I think if Carter is there at 5, the Hawks take him. If he's not, then I think the Hawks entertain trading back if they get a good enough offer to do so. Otherwise, take the next best defensive player on their board.

I think for pick 20, same thing, I am leaning Defense.

I do think they need to grab a Center in either round 2 or 3. In an ideal scenario, I'd like to see:

5 - DT - Carter
20 - DE
37 - CB
52 - C or LB
83 - LB or C (whichever you didn't get in round 2)

From rounds 4 onwards need 2 RB, a WR, OG and anything else for depth.

Pick 5 is really awkward. Theres so many red flags on Carter. The QB's will most likely be taken and I also don't want to reach that high for one with Smith. Kind of hoping Arizona trade down so we get Will Anderson.

Not sure where we will take players. LB (D-line in general), C are a huge need though (although i'm intrigued by the guy they got in FA). We probably need to take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round. Lockett is getting older and banged up, need another quality option to help.

I'm honestly fine not taking a QB this year. I know they get hyped up but I wasn't sold on any of them in college other than Young who Seattle can't get. Prime examples being Richardson. He was a turnover machine but getting so much hype due to being a combine freak and teams thinking they can fix him. I far prefer next years class. If Hooker drops far enough in the 2nd or 3rd maybe.

They need RB's, at least 2. Knowing Pete they take one high but I hope they don't. I hope one is a good returner. Feel like our return game has sucked for years.

Nothing about Will Anderson screams he’s in the Garrett, or even Hutchinson class of edge rushers. He got owned by the Ten OT who is expected to be a second round pick. I think you take a trade down if Carter is gone. Add more depth or extra picks in 2024.

WR, not an elite crop this year. So waiting until round 2 or later for one is perfectly fine. Don’t have much hope for Eskridge. Would prefer someone who isn’t too small.

A lot of the LBs in this draft are smaller than Chancellor at 6’2 and 220lbs. So it’s not a great crop. Probably like either Simpson from Clemson or the Wash St kid at Lb. Wagner and Bush are only on 1 year deals and have to make a call on Brooks. What does the 5th year option cost them vs what they think he’s worth?
Think they add IOL for sure. With zLewis and Haynes as Free agents next year best to add depth when you can. Don’t see them paying the IOL when they will need to pay their OT down the line.

But on days 1&2, a pair of DL, CB, C and LB make sense imo.

Absolutely draft a pair of RB and signing another or two as UDFA.

Amazing how this draft was reported to be WB deep yet it’s full of questions. Young was always small. Levis struggled. Other like Van Dyke and Jurkovec struggled. Richardson should have returned to school. Should be more polished before coming out. Teams are no longer afraid to move off first round QBs. Haskins, Wilson, Rosen, Darnold, done as starters before the deadline for their 5th year option after year 3.

I'm honestly not sure what they do, just in the last few days there's been reports they'd go corner which to me is shocking and some other names. I don't know how I feel, i'd be kind of gutted if they do trade down, we never get to pick so high.

I think the problem with projecting classes is you never know who declares- I think Penix, Nix for example would have made it a solid class. The hottest prospect has a down year etc.

Ultimately it's all a crapshoot. Mahomes went in the second round recently, Zach Wilson went in the first and busted.

Hurts went round 2. Mahomes was 10th Overall.

This isn’t a draft where there are limited questions. So I don’t think Seattle should just sit and take a guy they don’t truly love if there are very good offers. Thinking more that if they can secure 2024 picks since they already have extra picks in 2023 would be the play. Carter motivation worries me. Anderson, was it just the 5 star hype and good career at a premier program that props his name up vs him being truly elite? Would they really roll the dice on physical attributes on Wilson? The corners seem talented. Don’t see them going QB.

Makes the draft interesting.

You guys will like Witherspoon. Fun player, hits damn hard and fast, very smart at reading offensive formations, and seemingly a damn solid locker room guy, too.

Little surprised Seattle went that route, but as long as he is a scheme fit for what Seattle wants to do, it's a good pick. Were these the top need? No. But, with the draft, you want to take the best talent available.

I mean, I'm sure Seattle explored a trade down, but let's say they made the deal that AZ and Det made where they get a second round pick at 34 to drop to 12. Witherspoon likely gone to Detroit or Atlanta, depending on which one took Bijan. So, is Gonzalez and that 34 pick worth it? Those 2 extra spots in the draft from 5 to 3 was worth an extra 1st and 3rd round pick in next year's draft.

Think Seattle needs to address DL, LB, and C today. See if they do. Be disappointed if they took a RB today. I get JSN given that Eskridge has been injured and ineffective the past 2 years and Young looked raw in his limited offensive snaps last season. They wanted a 3rd option since Goodwin left.

I think they did a great job in round 1, and will add to the trenches today. Witherspoon sounds like he was born to be a Hawks DB.

They went with BPA which i'm fine with. Both players are studs. It worked well for them last year and they aren't reaching. Would like the d-line/center positions taken care of today though.

Have to play the board. Your early picks are really the only ones that you should pencil in as starters. If you are a bad team, you maybe can pencil up to your 3rd round pick. But, most middle of the pack teams and up only bank on the first rounders and maybe 2nd rounders as starters. Everyone else, sub package most likely. Seattle hit it out of the park with Lucas, Bryant, and Woolen becoming starters.

On that basis, if you need help in an area, use free agency. Balance the strength of the draft when it comes to your turn. This was a CB and DE draft. So, if you needed something else, sign a free agent.

I'm hoping the 2 2nd rounders today are starters but agreed everything after is a crapshoot barring good RB's in the lower rounds

Granted, there needs to be ~4 RBs who can game but I was surprised at the pick too. Hall is nice but I was thinking along the lines of adding guys for the interior of both lines for sure. Was pissed that the f'ing rams took Avila right before our high second.

They passed up the Minnesota C and the Florida guard later in round 2. Confusing.

I didn't think they'd take a RB so high but he is a beast. A Chris Carson clone but can catch. Him and walker together is frightening. Need to go dline heavy though tomorrow.

I know nothing about the DE but heard some cliff avril comparisons

That’s a different analysis than what I heard about Charbonnet. Heard he’s more a pure runner like Jacobs of LV. Not much in the pass game. In round 6 or 7, they need to draft more of a Homer type back who can be used in the pass game. Add that versatility to the RB room.

They are loading up on the lines on day 3. Pair of IOL and another couple of DL.

Hawks finished the draft with the complementary pass catching RB I was hoping for. Overall solid draft. Surprised only that they targeted their main needs in the middle of the draft vs on the first 2 days.

I think they were adamant they weren't going to reach to fill a need and just went with how the draft fell. Given how many bad drafts they had until last year reaching on players I'm fine with it. Those 2011 and 12 drafts carried the team for years.

I was fine with their decisions in round 1. Surprised on charbonnet as well as the decision to trade back in round 3 when Lb Simpson for Clemson and Henley from Wash St were on the board. They had brought Henley in for a visit.

No way in heck the Mariners should have won that game today with the lineup they trotted out.
