OT: Non-Kraken Local Sports (Mariners, Seahawks, Sounders, etc.)

NBA commissioner just said expansion is on the table after the media deal is finalized next March. Didn't correct the person when they said Vegas and Seattle.

First time he's confirmed expansion being a consideration.

Given that Milwaukee sold for a $3.5 billion valuation and Phoenix sold for a $4 billion valuation, that's your ballpark for the Expansion fee.

Is the agreement between OVG and Bonderman one where if Bonderman can't afford the NBA that they can have a different owner and be viable? With the whole Coyotes situation and all of the potential relocation cities, it does seem like being first to the market means you have control of the arena, but this is a different situation with OVG managing the arena that they paid to renovate, but don't own the land, so they also need to make money on the events.

It was always said that the ownership group would add to their group, if needed, for an nba team.

I think you'll see one, or even more, people with deep pockets added for the nba team.

I also doubt the OVG would have done a deal with the Kraken ownership group for the arena if they were not able to secure the funds to afford an NBA team. I'm sure part of the financial analysis for OVG was to include an NBA team and their dates as well.

OVG, Kraken and future Sonics all need to make money off the arena.

Seahawks to wear throwbacks next year! Against Cleveland

They have special locker rooms for the Sonics already in the arena for them. Storm and Kraken have dedicated ones too and I think a 4th for music artists.

Five teams in WA now, plus Portland just down the street. That is some surprising density for a US-based division, pretty cool!

So.. out of curiosity, what sports teams do you all support besides the Kraken?

Here are my teams in order of how much time I put into them:

Kraken/Portland Timbers - easily my top teams and only the M’s are close
Mariners
Portland Winterhawks/Wenatchee Wild (things getting messy now and I’m confused)
Ridgefield Raptors (West Coast League Baseball)
RC Lens (Ligue 1 France)
NJ Devils
CV Firebirds
Portland Trailblazers
Volendam (Eridevisie Netherlands)
Newcastle United (English Premier League)
Kansas City Mavericks (or whoever my middle school buddy Tad O’Had is coaching or GMing)
Club Bruges (Belgian Pro League)
Celtic (Scottish Premier League)
Besiktas JK (Turkish Super League)
Minnesota Wild
Buffalo Sabres
Hillsboro Hops (A League Baseball)

I don’t really do American Football, but I might watch like 10-20 minutes of Seahawks football here and there… like maybe total per year at most. Go Hawks lololol. Was a big fan in the Largent era, but I very much dislike the league as a whole now. Not for me.

Well, here it is with me.

NHL:
Seattle Kraken --> pretty obvious
New Jersey Devils
- my team before I took a bit of a break from hockey and Patrick Elias is one of my all time favourite players

Baseball:
(currently) St. Louis Cardinals --> Nolan Arenado is my favourite player

American Football:
not really, sometimes I watch the Seahawks cause they're from Seattle

Basketball:
haven't watched for a long time, but might watch a couple of games if the Sonics would come back

Football:

Bundesliga:
Borrusia Mönchengladbach --> my team, even though it's not been as good the last couple of seasons.

Serie A:
Fiorentina --> Batistuta is one of my all time favourite players
AC Milan --> van Basten was fantastic and I do respect Maldini a lot

La Liga:
Barca --> thanks to their playing style, history(with Cruyff) and the fact that I had a "training camp" during my youth playing days in Barcelona.
UD Las Palmas --> loved the story this year(got promoted to La Liga) and curious to see what they can do in the spanish top flight next season.

Premier League:
Liverpoool: --> not a big Premier League fan but like Liverpool given the fan friendship between them and Gladbach.

Other:
Celtic ---> Henrik Larsson was one of my favourite players and I like the atmosphere.
Fans also got along quite well when we played each other in the CL a couple years ago.

Though; I've got to say that outside of the Seattle Kraken and Borussia I don't follow those other teams anywhere near as much.

I’ve tried to find a Bundesliga club to follow but none have really grabbed me yet.

I tend to pick promising 2nd division teams and hope they get promoted at some point. That or middling teams.

I’ve got the same issue for La Liga and Série A, though I do find myself drawn to the Roman clubs in Série A, so it’ll probably be one of those. I’ll be visiting next year.

I’ve never been close with La Liga, but Real Sociedad was chosen entirely at random back during a season that would eventually find them relegated, but I’ve never really followed them so the option to change is wide open.

Celtic- Scottish premier league. My first love and I grew up in glasgow. If they lose it still pisses me off for days.

Sounders- love going to games and mls keeps improving every year, this season though has felt a bit stale though for the sounders who are overdue a rebuild.

Seahawks- got super into the NFL when I moved here and one of the few sports I can watch any game on.love the off season storylines too.

Got super into the kraken this year.

Mariners- love going to t-mobile Park. Watching on TV less so unless there's not much on.

UW Huskies- my wife went to UW and they are the closest college team. Watch a lot of college football and softball especially. They look promising with penix at qb.

Ol Reign- I do try to go to a couple of games a year and watch games on TV. I don't love their move to CenturyLink though. Wish seattle could make the new memorial stadium 20,000.

LA Angels- my wife is a huge angels fan along with my brother in laws. Weird being in the same division as seattle but I want them to do well when not playing seattle. Love ohtani and trout.

Outside of that I'll watch the Scottish and US national teams when they aren't playing friendlies. Occasionally Scottish rugby team And the thunderbirds/Coachella play off runs.

I don't love basketball. If the sonics come back I'll give them a chance but even March madness I'm not to arse about.

I used to watch a lot more soccer when I lived in the uk but outside of my teams not so much anymore. I find the English league pretty sterile now whereas in the early 2000's I'd watch match of the day etc. Same with the champions league latter stages now.

Well, maybe teams like Union Berlin or FC St. Pauli could be something for you.

Union Berlin had their fans actually buld the stadium during their free time(the owner/president paid for the material) and they've now even qualified for the Champions League.

St. Pauil are from Hamburg and a bit of their own thing as well.

Looking at Serie A.
If you like the teams from Rome than you've got Roma and Lazio. Though, Frosinone just got promoted to Serie A and is about 50 miles south(ish) from Rome.

La Liga.
Sociedad seems like an interesting choice.

NHL- Kraken since their inception, after being a Canucks fan since 1970. I couldn’t stomach supporting a team whose owner verifiably beat his children, so I sold off my memorabilia and have never looked back.
MLB- Mariners since their inception. Griffey Jr. Is still the best baseball player I’ve ever seen live.
NBA- A Sonics fan since the Lenny Wilkins era. I’m a netminder in hockey, so it’s been hard to watch a sport where goaltending is illegal. 😆
NFL- Seahawks since day one. Zorn to Largent.
Major Junior- Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. We lived there for years and went to many games.
Soccer-Vancouver Whitecaps, but more passionately during the NASL days of the late 70’s. The current owners don’t invest in fielding a good side.

NHL - Kraken
MLB - Mariniers by default, I'm used to them disappointing me every year.
NFL- Seahawks. I can rest well that we finally won a super bowl
College- UW, local team, went to school there, used to watch with my dad in the 80s-90s
,major junior - Seattle Thunderbirds, Started following it because my brother billets players, now my family is all in. Its been a good run the past 10 years.
