Good move. As I said earlier, he's nothing more than a 4th of 5th receiver at best at this point.
Yeah. Enjoyed his time as a Viking but he was not worth that cap hit. Seems like the rebuild part of the competitive rebuild is coming fast.

Is there any point in keeping Cousins around if we are going in for a rebuild, or does he have one of those deals that penalizes whether he is cut or not?

It's not a complete rebuild. Most of the work is coming on a terrible defense. Theilen is addition by subtraction at this point. KJ had already taken his spot.

Thought they might be able to renegotiate there, but maybe not
Only rumors at this point so you know never know. They might still get something done.

I also think we need to see what we have in Lewis Cine. We arent winning the SB next year so why not play the young guy and see what we have.

Now this is surprising a bit. Alot on Booth Jrs and Evans shoulders right now. Looks more and more like CB in round 1 or 2 if we trade back. Good thing its a deep CB class.

Even with these moves, aren't they still over the cap?
Correct. Around 10 mill i think.

Thank you! They recognize his terrible play! Duke Shelly was a clear upgrade when he went down and Shelly was called up from the practice squad!

That was a clear sign to me that Dantzler had to go!

Yeah he was a great pickup by Kwesi. I remember you calling it too awhile ago.

On the plus side, it seems like Kwesi knows what he's doing (so far). May take a "few" seasons to truly get the team to a point that he envisions.

Wow…. Smith is a semi legend, to me. Great player. Seems a bit premature, but I haven’t a clue as to the money involved.

Who the hell are they going to have playing D?
I think they have to have been trying to renegotiate with him, hence ongoing talks. He still has value, especially in a Flores defense.

As for who? We had the worst secondary in the NFL, one of the worst defenses overall. Changing most players back there sure can't hurt much more than it already was. I look at massive changes on D as the most positive thing this offseason.

I begged for it last offseason!

Smith is also 34 years old, dudes getting up there in age for a football player. If we wanted to keep him on for veteran leadership role i wouldnt have a problem with it but not for a 19 million dollar cap hit.

Which is why I'm still holding out hope for renegotiation

Posted this on another website but could be a vague roadmap. Maybe we do something along these lines over the next 2+ years.

Offense seems to be mostly set with a prime JJ, OL pretty well set, and a prime Hock, assuming theyre all extended which shouldn't be a problem. May already have RBs to replace Cook with Chandler, Kene. Even then they can be found in the later rounds.

Extend Kirk maybe 2-4 years. With him being an easy cut after a few years.

Draft a QBotF in 24 or 25, to sit behind Kirk for a year.

Focus on defense with this draft class and fill in holes in 24 and beyond with the boatload of money we will have. The cap is also expected to make a huge leap with the new media deal.

In a perfect world we will have a great offense with a young QB who sat for a year, an elite WR and TE who are locked up, an OL thats pretty much set with CD, Ingram, and Oneill and a rebuilt defense with an above average DC in Flores.

We have no developmental QB. We need to draft one, even if it's in the 6th or 7th round. Purdy proved the value of having a guy back there always developing.

Another Slick Rick philosophical failure.

To be fair...they thought they had one...Mond just wasn't the guy.

How many years did they also pluck a FA off the pile and make it work. May not have lead to SB titles, but this franchise did a lot of winning under Spielman.
Yes, and they could've saved draft picks thrown away after injuries had they had a quality backup QB.

Bridgewater got injured, only Sean Hill on the roster besides... had to throw away a 1st rounder in desperation for Bradford. I hated his QB philosophy

The teams winning super bowls have backup plans.
