Yes, and they could've saved draft picks thrown away after injuries had they had a quality backup QB.

Bridgewater got injured, only Sean Hill on the roster besides... had to throw away a 1st rounder in desperation for Bradford. I hated his QB philosophy
And that's valid. He only drafted 3 QB's while here. And if Teddy doesn't get hurt, who knows. I agree they should draft one sooner rather than later, but there are many ways to skin that winning cat...

So, in the end, we agree, we need to have a developmental QB in this draft. He may not end up a starter, but could become a valuable backup, and may become a trade asset down the road.

If he proves down the road he could be the next guy under center, you elevate him to starter and draft another for development purposes.

Of course. I'm just saying they thought they had one to develop under Cousins...he just wasn't the guy. I wanted Trey Lance and he's looking like a bust himself. Unfortunately...drafting QB's is a massive crapshoot.

Due to injury, Lance hasn't had an opportunity to show us if he's a bust or not.

Agreed, it is... which is why you should always have a developmental QB on the roster.

Going with Manion, Osweiler, Semien, Hill is no backup plan. I'd add Keenum to the list, but he found his game for a year and played above himself for a time... coming into that year and out of that year, nobody could've predicted the stars to align for him like that though.

Ponder was drafted to start, Teddy was drafted to start, then finally in his 2nd to last draft, Mond was finally drafted to develop.

We have no developmental QB. We need to draft one, even if it's in the 6th or 7th round. Purdy proved the value of having a guy back there always developing.

Another Slick Rick philosophical failure.
Purdy with Shanny to me is the exception, not every coach in the NFL can do what Shanny did on offense, with a 7th round QB, but i agree with what youre saying. If i were a GM id be drafting a QB every year. BB constantly used high draft capital on QBs when he had TB12.

Ideally in 24 or 25 we would trade high end draft picks to draft the QBotF. Id be fine if we forgo that philosophy (and remember i agree with what you said) if it meant we have a QB room of Kirk, QBotF and some vet QB like Sean Mannion.

I'm not saying everyone would find instant success... I'm saying having a legit talent to develop over time is valuable.

They had 2 QBs, legit ones on the roster. They still drafted one to develop to maybe become something someday. That day just came sooner than expected... but it still proves the value of doing so.

I guess what im trying to say is, while agreeing with you and that philosophy, im fine if we hold out for a year or 2, get the QBotF then start drafting later round development type QBs. But if we wanna throw out a 7th round pick this year id be completely fine with it.

I'm saying draft one now whether you plan on drafting another in 2 years or not. You'll know better what you have in 2 years and know if it's worth moving for a high pick or not etc.

Yeah. At the end of the day were discussing what we should do with a day 3 pick. It wont break the franchise. But what matters is we agree with the philosophy.

Someone who listens to PA mentioned that PA was saying that KOC is gushing over Will Levis. Some connection too with KOC and Wills OC and QB coach in 2021, Liam Coen. I guess PA can at times have some good info with who we like after the combine.

Kwesi screwed up big time last year moving down the entire draft and not getting a future first.
Ehh. Depends upon the draft charts you choose to look at. Some say we gained value, some say we didn’t. I’m not going to question a guy who used to look at and evaluate trade charts. If there was a QB there then yeah we would of been able to get a haul but there wasn’t.

RIP Bud Grant.

Vikings, Blue Bomber, and Gopher legend. Also won a NBA title as a Laker. Before he was a HOF coach he was a great athlete.
