Seems like our GM didn't get full value on the trade.
The pick value chart says we came out ahead slightly actually.

Lewis Cine is a BIG rangey safety with unsafety like speed (runs a 4.38 40) who can hit like a truck.

They probably won't, but wonder if they'll go QB with the #34 pick. He's not tall, but is an athlete, and seems to have a good arm. The big thing for me is what is between his ears, though. You could see that Brees had "it" even though he was smallish, and not overly athletic.
I guess, because QB's are paid so much, that you want to be able to insert him into the starting lineup from day one to make the most of his lesser initial cap space.

Really can't wait for the Cousins era to be over.

Didn't like it at first, then had to remember that NFL drafts picks have way different values than NHL picks. Just neutral now.

Moving up 10 spots in the 2nd + adding a 3rd seems to be OK, even for dropping that far in the first, especially if you're eyeing down the safety position in today's NFL.

Agreed completely. Tail end of the first round is the best spot for a 1st round safety. We picked up Smith 29th overall back in the day. Looking at this pick, I like this one as much as that pick... was pretty happy about that pick.

We absolutely needed a DB early in this draft with our terrible secondary and with our best DB getting so old in Smith. The value at 12 would not have helped us where we needed it, so we had to trade down to retain value AND help the team. It's much easier to play in the first year as a safety than corner, so Cine can make a day one impact and actually improve the defense right away... while we not only "retained" the value of the picks, but actually came out a bit ahead.

It was the right thing to do.

Expectation is now 3 starters out of the first 3 rounds, instead of probably 2 before. Have to get at least 1 from the 3rd round.

BTW for those wondering, Detroit has (2) 1st round draft picks next season. Even if they didn't want to trade their own 1st, they could have traded the Rams. Why Minnesota didn't ask for this, especially given how big of a jump it was - no idea.

Why didn’t we get the 1OA? What a fail!

Hyperbole at your best, but then again, you're always good at that.

Most teams when moving up from the back half of the draft to the top half of the draft generally throw in a 1st. It's understandable that Detroit may not have wanted to give up their 1st, but the Rams would have been a lower pick (20s/30s).

Minnesota dropped from 12 -> 32, which is 20 picks, but only moved up 8 (46-34) in the 2nd...They netted only a 3rd round pick in that move, which is baffling.

The talent between the 12th pick and the 32nd pick can be huge, the talent between the 34th and 46th isn't as big.

Minnesota got (slightly) above expected value for the trade. Hard to get mad about it but alas you manage to find a way to get upset about something.

for all you BPA posters , explain to me how BPA at 32 is better than BPA at 12? amazing how some of you change your tune just to agree with current gms!
Well let’s say there’s 10 players who are all, more or less, the same talent level but different positions. Why not trade down and acquire more picks for someone you want, that’s at the same relative skill level?

The NFL you can also draft for a specific position. It's a much more specialized league than the NHL. It's also much deeper for quality players. It also has a much larger roster to account for. It's why quantity over quality is needed at times.

I like the trade for the Vikings. They don't have that elite tier QB (none in this draft), have multiple holes, so they need too add anyway they can.

I'm saying this as a Packers fan, and really have no real rooting interest for/against the Vikings.
