oh i am ready for a rebuild just as i was ready for the wild to rebuild. said it earlier in the year to some friends i would trade smith hunter barr cook cousins and maybe a few other big names just to jump start the rebuild. would next year or two hurt? probably but with the amount of draft capital coming back and the NFL having pretty solid 1st year players filling holes i wouldnt have an issue with it at all.

Funny you mention that as I have no earthly idea what their plan is now. Was a nice run we had earlier but it seems like by the end of the year we'll be back to mediocrity and a first-round exit. At least that's my guess with how Vegas, Colorado and St. Louis look.

yeah i could see this team fully healthy with boldy up actually doing a good amount of dmg vs vegas, st louis for whatever reason is just a different animal for us. if we do fall back down to wild card or out id be much happier about selling off and retooling around kap a bit more. With how Boldy has looked, Zucc is every bit expendable and replaced by him when his NTC gets modified next season.

Unless you’re willing to bite the bullet on Watson, you’re not going to upgrade Cousins.

Mayfield mostly sucks.
If Watson clears those legal issues and we hire Flores, he makes a lot of sense as according to reports Watson was ok with the dolphins only because of Flores.

The Brown's may be parting with Mayfield. Hell, I'd give him a chance for the right price.
That would be the way to go if you wanted to be competitive, and (possibly) realistic. Mayfield is getting bad press in Cleveland, and they are not in a position to rebuild. I can see them justifying getting Cousins, because we would take on Mayfield's cap hit in such a deal. I am of the belief that Mayfield will get better once he is healthy.

And if he's not? He is just your rebuild bridge to a QB you draft.

I could see that as an option.

BTW - Thank you Wilfs, for not being satisfied with mediocrity!

They spend to the cap, do everything you hope for from an owner... get to the middle of the pack and are not satisfied.

Firing Zimmer might have been fan pandering, had that happened on its own... but firing Spielman too shows they really mean what they're saying.

Yeah, you don't have to put all your chips in with Mayfield. He was bad this year, but playing with a torn Labrum can't be fun. Even though it's not his throwing shoulder, it does affect his throwing motion, and every time he got hit it must've been agony.
Cousins was never mobile, but he is getting slower as he ages. That, together with his lack of pocket presence and bed O line spells disaster for next year.
I'll take Mayfield and the 25M in cap space over Cousins. I'm not sure if Cleveland would be interested, but from afar, I can see Cousins stats looking attractive.

I would've been furious if they didn't fire Spielman. He is more responsible for the current state of the Vikings than Zimmer is.

$16M in space.

There's $10M in dead money if Cousins is traded that doesn't go away.

I absolutely agree with you, but every complaint you heard from the overall fanbase was about Zimmer.

I personally couldn't believe Spielman didn't have the more vocal ire of the fans, but everyone always focused on Zimmer.

Even in general conversation it was always Zimmer.

When people would ask me if the Vikings should fire Zimmer, my response was, "I couldn't care less."

They'd be shocked and ask if i thought he should stay... I would tell them "You're missing the point, it's Spielman that needs to go first and foremost, whomever replaces him is likely to replace Zimmer anyway."

thats because football fans, much like in politics, dont understand its the people behind the scenes that make the big moves, not the faces of the franchises (coach/president) in most cases.

Sounds like Rob Brzezinski will lead the GM search.

Hopefully they can find one in a timely manner so they can get started on finding a new coach.

I'm a fan of Brzezinski, he's been a good asset in the executive staff for a long time.

i just hope they can find an upgrade for gm / coach rather than just a paper change. on paper the vikings have always seemed to look good , just never good enough. i liked spielman on draft day.

I find it strange that the media are speculating on who should be the next head coach, rather than the next GM. Don't you hire a GM first, who then hires a HC?

Wouldn't be surprised if George Paton is one of the first candidates interviewed for GM.
