Just rising to the occasion every game. Offensively continues to show confidence with his puck moving and playmaking. Defensively he’s become more physical and positionally sound. Went toe to toe with McDavid a couple times tonight and shut him down a few of the shifts. It was impressive to see. Hes playing big minutes and carry the entire defense on his back without Pelech Pulock and Mayfield. It’s unreal what he’s doing.

Any chance he gets a nomination for the Norris?

I am guessing he would be placed 3rd if we did voting now so if he can keep up the pace I could see it. Now that is a huge assumption he can play at this pace for 50 more games

Any chance he gets a nod for the Norris?
We’re only a little over a quarter through the season. Lots of hockey left. It’s not easy to sustain this level of play but we’ll see. If they take into consideration that the isles have their 2 most seasoned and top defenders out long term in Pelech and Pulock plus mayfield being out, and Dobson stepping up not only offensively but defensively as well then he will get Norris votes.

Norris has always been geared towards heavily weighing offensive production. So Quinn Hughes and Makar are probably the front runners with Quinn leading right now.

But if the voters took into consideration all areas of the ice and context of the situation each guy plays in, then I could see Dobson getting votes most definitely.
But again, it’s a long season and this is his first time playing a ridiculous amount of minutes and taking the tough matchups as well. Hes only 23 just shy of 24 so let’s see how he holds up.

Thank you. :thumbu:

What about Romanov playing 25m+ a game ?
Dobson is 3rd in the NHL TOI averaging over 25min per game

Romanov is 41st in the NHL TOI averaging a little over 22 min per game.
Romanov has been solid this year. Has not been what Dobson has been though

Just glad he's elevated his games in both zones. He's finally asserting himself defensively. He's playing with a pretty potent offense, so that has helped his totals.

I know plus minus isnt the best stat, but just noticed hes a +17 while the next highest on the Islanders is +9.
The ability to be out there while your team produces more then it lets in should matter to people.

I remember when visnovsky had a much higher+/- than everyone else on nyi, and it's for the same reason (until Wilson bruised his brain) - when Dobson gets the puck, it's leaving the zone. Dobson is average defensively (trending up), but he excels on the counterattack.

Can't remember a time anyone called our offense "pretty potent".
2017-2018? Our defense was extremely porous.

For how much he plays, its even more impressive with the gap amongst his teammates. Dudes been a workhorse doing everything.

Dobson's +17 on a team with a negative goal differential is also a telling stat. Romanov has also made leaps in his game so he has helped, but Dobson is doing everything to keep this defense afloat while Pelech, Pulock, and Mayfield can return. It really is amazing how big of a quantum leap he has taken this year and at a time when the Isles needed him most.

Dobson started the year as a good young defenseman on the way up. Right now, I'd say he is playing like a Norris finalist. Arya Stark would be proud!

Always had a soft spot for Dobson for his OT heroics at U20’s in 2016, deserves every bit of the success he is getting.

Was thoroughly impressed watching him the other night...

Was the top 2-3 performances I've seen from a dman all year. Looks so fluid and effortless out there, always in the right spot and making quick, smart decisions with the puck.

He's going to be a great one for years to come. Could eventually be the best player from that draft.

He plays better with more minutes. The polar opposite of Scott Mayfield. With everyone healthy, Lane should keep playing Noah 25+ minutes at minimum a game.

I think I saw Dobson plays 21:30 or something at ES... tops in the NHL or close to it. Add in the PP and PK time and you see how the minutes pile up. He plays more like 27+ since the injuries hit so he's been doing this for a while. I think his ice time goes down once everyone is healthy, probably for the best yet the other part of me thinks you just have to let Secretariat run his race.

He plays substantially better when given more responsibility. If anything, you keep that moving until Pelech and Pulock are 1000% healthy and up to their previous season self. Noah is just a thoroughbred this year and it’s glorious to watch.
